  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been trying to get this dent out myself but have had no luck. I've tried the boiling water+suction device but that hasn't worked. I'd rather not spend hundreds of dollars at a body shop to have it professionally removed when the dent itself doesn't seem like it's that deep.

The dent is so slight it's hard to even notice somtimes, but me being the owner I notice it all the time. I've attached a picture where you can clearly see it and one where it's invisible. Can anyone offer some advice on how to get this dent or "crease" out?

Thank you in advance!

That looks like a crease, like the metal is stretched and I am thinking you won't get that one out with profession help .

I have had some luck with heating the area at and around the dent, with a hair dryer, then rubbing the area in a circle, around the dent with an ice cube, or 2. Being careful to not get the heat the area too hot.

I've used various "dent wizard" guys several times through out the years and they know their stuff. I believe they can give you a free estimate, prob costs less than $100

Hmm, I may just end up having to go that route...

PDR can probably take care of that for $200 or so, might be worth it to find one around you, most are mobile. I have had good success with them.

my 2010 Avalanche had a grease monkey at the local oil change place back it into his tool box, had damage similar to that, but not as large an area, $120 and it looked like it has never happened.

What does PDR stand for? If I could fix this for between $100-$200 all said and done I'd say that's fair.

Shops around me wanted double that if not more to remove dents on my previous car.

Paintless Dent Repair

In Texas with us being the hail capital, PDR guys are common. Most are pretty good. As long as the back side of the dent area is accessible they can make it much better than present condition. If metal is not stretched you have a real good chance of great success for probably $150 or so. I’ve used them more than once and been impressed.

My go to guy for PDR here in Indy goes to Texas all the time for work. He's in San Antonio right now.

My nephew worked for one of those Paintless Dent Repair companies, him and his crew were always chasing hail storms. They would set up tents and could stay in one area for a couple weeks fixing cars.

Just break out the ball-peen hammer. Couple good swings and you'll be good as new.

Update: I'm getting the dent fixed by a local PDR shop tommorow morning. I'll post pics and let you all know how much it cost afterwards.

Awesome. Much better than my advice!

What do you guys think about this chip/dent on my hood? Should I order a paint pen and a PDR shop? A co-worker gave me his PDR kit to use but I am not comfortable with it, especially using the hot glue, which he claims will come off with the release agent. I don't trust my skills and would prefer to push liability on to an expert.

I'd be too afraid to mess with a mark on the hood. Pretty much anything I would try would just make it look bigger.

Maybe (maybe) I would try a single drop of paint from a pointed touch up pen, then let it dry. Just don't touch it.

Same here. If it's dented, get a dent wizard guy to fix the dent (pretty reasonable $) - then do a touch up yourself if it still looks bad. I think getting the dent out will make it less noticable

I just bought a paint pen using the color code and I am in the process of researching the PDR guys in my area. I'll keep the post updated with the results. It is such a small nick without bare metal showing so I am hesitant to use the paint pen, I have seen an attempt to use them go very badly, but I'll see how I feel once the dent i s out.
Thanks.
