  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Adjustable headrests

Just saw a video on the G70 FB group that a member (I believe he's on here too but don't remember his user name, he has the quad exhaust tips) posted of his G70 showing his headrest adjusting forward. This must be something specific to certain countries.

Ok, next test. Will G80 seats fit in a G70? 😆
I've wondered the same thing. I haven't tried out G80 seats yet, but I find the flat bottom on my G70 seats are horribly uncomfortable after about an hour. On the last five hour trip I made, my butt and thighs were so sore I swore I would have to get new seats or sell the car ☹️ my wife and son have the same opinion, so it's not just me.

Looking at the Korean Genesis web site it sure looks like they show a G70 with moveable headrest based on the slots at the base of the head rest. I have a coworker in Korea so will try to talk him into stopping by a Korean dealer to see for sure. If they exist I’ll get him to get a center to center post spacing, the part number and Korean pricing. I would love to be able to adjust mine. 5F6A55B0-CFCA-44AB-A4CB-67DA91F8CC91.webp

Yep... they cut corners yet again for us North Americans.. how much would they even save by doing this? Imagine having to develop something cheaper to make profit from NA region where they hope to sell the most (make most profit). I will try to source a kdm pair to swap out. This is unacceptable.

Another possibility is that it affected crash test ratings. IIHS crashes a vehicle as-is from the dealership it buys it from. Genesis may have discovered that if the headrest is adjusted incorrectly from the factory, or adjusted by the dealer IIHS buys it from, it may impact g-force results on the head, causing a lower score. I've noticed that it seems like Genesis/Hyundai puts a lot of emphasis on IIHS awards, seeing as they're pretty much perfect across the board, so I'm sure they're a major consideration during the design process.

Then again, this feature is available in the G80 and G90. I wonder if they took this feature out for the Stinger as well? I am 95% sure that it was to save costs wherever they can.

Okay, just confirmed that the Stinger does have 4 way adjustable headrests. And the G70 is supposed to be the more LUXURIOUS one amirite? as far as i know the stinger has much better NVH control too.

I'll just say this: I work as a design engineer in the automotive industry. Companies will go out of their way to test every component on the car for how it affects crash tests, and modify individual components just to increase the factor of safety to be within specs. That IIHS Top Safety Pick is worth its weight in gold.

Also, what works on the G80/G90 may not work on the G70. The physics behind crash tests are so insanely complex, you cannot assume that what works for one model works for the other.

Good points, but have always heard auto manufacturers go out of their way to save $5.00 too since that times 100k units per year is a large some of money. $5.00 at the manufacturing phase might mean sticker price changes by $50 at the dealer. Not sure of the ratio so just guessing here.

Those are very respectable comments. I still believe it was for cost cutting as there are several other areas where they cut corners for NA models (acoustic side windows, interior lighting, NVH control to name a few). If safety really was the concern, they wouldn’t have included that option on the G70 for other continents. They will say it is to keep the overall MSRP down for us but in reality they chose the NA market to cut corners and profit. After currency exchange we end up paying more for less even with shipping cost in mind.

I’ve tried and mine does not move either. But maybe we’re both missing something? I wouldn’t mind a slight tilt forward if possible
Just went to the Genesis dealership. These headrests only adjust up and down in spite of what the manual says.
