  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How does Genesis feel about aftermarket air intakes?

Thinking about adding a set of aftermarket air intakes to my G80 Sport. I am new the world of Hyundai / Genesis so I have no idea how they would react. Harley Davidson has no problems with just an intake and on my SS the dealer actually told me it would not be an issue. So how about some of you with real world experience please school me on this potential issue.

Don't think they'd care. But without a tune, why would you want to add an air intake?

From my knowledge, aftermarket parts are never an issue with the warranty until there is an issue under warranty that could be blamed on the aftermarket part. Example, if you add an aftermarket cold air intake with the air filter postioned low to the ground in the bumper and then somehow your engine gets hydro-locked due to pulling in water; then the dealership could have a good case that the modified air filter/intake was the cause of the engine failure and void your warranty. The same for a ECU tune that caused the engine to run out of factory specs if a failure occurs under warranty.

However, it would be very hard for a dealership to blame most aftermarket air filters located in the engine bay for any engine failures, unless the filter element somehow beaks apart and the bits get sucked into the intake manifold and cause internal engine damage. Hence, do not buy a cheap brand air-filter or install a cold air intake that sits low to the ground and you should be fine.

Thanks,
Hopefully you are speaking from experience. On our Chevrolet SS it was just as you described. My dealer knew I had a CAI and a tune, but as long the my issues were not obviously related to the problem they had no issues...
Do you you have a CAI, because I am having trouble finding one that fits the G80 Sport.

I have contacted 2 manufacturers of the Kia Stinger twin intakes and confirmed that they do not fit the G80. They do however fit thr G70. So I am curious myself. Who makes a cold air intake for the G80.

Yeah, I can not seem to find one. If come across one please let me know.

Yeah I learned the hard way, I bought the Injen intakes for the stinger 3.3 & they don’t fit because the ac pipe lines are different and mounting points on the fenders are different on the stinger vs G80 sport. wish I would’ve seen this before lol, either way I’m pretty hard headed. I was looking for curved couplings to try to make them fit but the driver side wouldn’t even come close.

Trying the Wagner intercooler next to see if that fits if not then my neighbors stinger is gonna have a nice 2000$ set up. Wish they would make good G80 3.3 intakes

Hey, did the Wagner intercooler fit your G80?
Still no luck on intakes?

Maybe these?

Maybe these?

I've looked into these extensively and they're not intakes to begin with.
These "snorkels" barely allow a little more air to go to the intake compartment.
And don't expect any gains from them, but they DO give a nice (appealing) visual upgrade, especially if you got the model with LEDS.

I myself have nearly lost all hope of finding a CAI for my V8 I started to contemplate making once myself.
I 3D scanned the original intake box and made a crude design for it to accommodate the intake while bolting onto original screw threads, got myself a couple of fiberglass weave rolls (I imagine they'd provide good heat insulation) and a barrel of resin.
I still have to make molds of the intake box to make the heatshield and get pipes in proper sizes, cut and weld them together so It's too much for my current schedule (and past ones!).

Do you happen to have the 3D print model of this? I’m desperately trying to print a heat shield I bought the burger Motorsport intakes but heat shield don’t fit my g80

My sincerest apologies, I usually wait for email notifications rather than checking site myself and no email notified me of your messages.
I have the 3D scan of the original air filter compartment (to be replaced with a self-made heat shield) and my attempts at designing one myself are pretty..... embarrassing.
I do plan to make a mold at some time and began printing some of its parts but, boy, did it take long! Only the part resting over the front tires (the curve only!) took my Prusa printer 12 hours printing a shell (not a blunt object) at 0.2 Z quality (it makes sense if you know a little about 3D printing).

Either way, it's made for V8 engines and feel free to give it a try yourself: G80 V8 Air Filter Compartment Scan.3mf
