  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Center Console Peeling/Flaking

I have an automatic and looks like that material doesn't go all the way to the "edge" of the console; which is why it probably starts to peel.

After closer look at the center console, and other parts, I'm starting to wonder about the quality of the interior. Not sure if the "leather" is tightly wrapped or if it's just high quality plastic? Doesn't look like it will last in a year or so.

I have a 3.3 with this same peeling issue. Garage kept 95% of the time. I've had it since end of Feb with only 3,300 miles. This reminds me of what I see in all my German vehicles after about 50k miles.

Mine is peeling, albeit very little. Dealer said the'd order a replacement part and install. My fear is trading a small and virtually invisible flaw for potential squeaks and rattles if the repair is not done properly. The G70 is currently rock solid while my '15 Sonata was a cacophony of noise over bumps.

Mines not peeling, but I’m going to be proactive. I have a roll of 1/2” Xpel PPF I bought for the top edges of my rocker panels to stop any more chips (got one from clipping it with my shoe). I just tried a small piece and edge to edge you can hardly see it’s there. I get it cut to the right size and lay it on with a little heat and should form to the texture and give that added layer of protection needed.

3.3 Sport AWD w/3000 miles... so far lucky I guess, no flaking.

I just had my G70 in for the first complimentary maintenance and mentioned the peeling/flaking issue. The dealer took a look and said the affected part will be replaced under warranty. They had to order the part, so I'll have to wait until it's shipped and have the dealer replace it. I'll post an update when it's completed. Hopefully the new trim piece won't have the same material issue as the original. Fingers crossed.

Mine is flaking too. I mentioned it to the dealer already and they put it in my file for next time I'm in for an oil change.

Anyone noticed this issue (see attached pics)? Kind of like a clear coat is flaking off - and was missed on about 1/4" section.

Is it a "clear coat" that's flaking off? Or is it a residual adhesive line from the plastic that's shipped with the car and removed prior to customer delivery? I found a few areas of my interior that I needed to use some Goo Gone on to remove the adhesive lines after the plastic protective covering was peeled of by the dealer prior to delivery. Hard to tell for sure from the pics, but I see what you're pointing out and it seemed similar to what I described above.

Interesting. Well, if anything shakes out with the dealer, keep us posted. Curious to see if it gets worse or stays as is.

Update: the dealer ordered a replacement trim piece from Korea when I was in a few weeks ago for the first complimentary service. I drove up to the dealer last Saturday as scheduled. I planned to wait for the technician to replace the trim piece but the tech told the service manager it would take him 3-4 hours to complete since there was quite a bit of other parts to remove and reinstall as part of the job. So they put my in a loaner car (G80) about an hour after I arrive and sent me on my way. Since dealers aren't open Sundays, they drove my G70 to my work on Monday afternoon, picked up the loaner, and that was it. New trim piece looks brand new, as expected, and hopefully won't have the flaking issue again.

I have to say that, while my purchase experience was a sh!t show, the service has been quite good overall to date.

3.3T 10000kms in, doing the same. Even other parts of interior showing peeling. 271C5FB8-3444-42E3-8D20-34AEDED7F35E.jpeg7B250215-9463-40B5-8DAD-EAE064D07B27.jpeg

How has the new piece been holding up?
