  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Get the map updated - cheaper / easier now

All in all
Welll... thanks for the list! Didnt even attempt to change anything on mine as I just thought it was a map update only. Guess I'll be spending a little time to check it out.

For only $25 a pop, I decided it was time to upgrade both cars. The 2015 touch from the original v8.5 and the 2016 dial from 12.5 and installed both respective updates last night.

I played a bit with the 2015 and IMHO this upgrade is huge step up from the original v8.5. The result is like having a complete HU upgrade, here are few things I noted so far:
A - They definitely mucked around with the DSP settings, the sound positioning with the 3D sound enabled now closely resembles the ‘clarify’ features available on later models.
B - the sound is much ‘fuller’. I was able to listen to classical music at volume 5 with remarkable clarity, while the sound of some R&B music at 31 was a special unexpected treat.
C - The ‘monitor’ update is well worth it, with the addition of hue and contrast, plus all the Graphics updates, the screen can now be adjusted in multiple ways that makes the display really pop.
D - the ability to control which function is selected by using the steering wheel control is very handy.
E - They have added granular sound priority controls which I found to be a very useful addition.
F - other obscure features, such as being able to use the tune nob to do a map zoom I found to be less useful, but a fun feature never the less...

What I find odd is none of the above added features are specifically mentioned anywhere that I could find!

All in all, I found this $25 upgrade to be well worth it, it’s almost like having a new head unit. I would certainly would have paid a bit more for it, but I am glad that they are almost giving these upgrades away, for the cost of an SD card back in 2015.🍻
Ok since you guys found the above list useful I thought I do some additional updates:

This morning I took the 2015 5.0 for a quick errand and found couple of additional iPhone / iOS features that just made my day that much brighter:

a - Enhanced speed boot time with almost immediate access to car play.
b - Car2Airplay functionality is now near flawless (if you have one of those wireless air play adapters)
c - Map speech does not block background music regardless of the source (it used to switch to Bluetooth).
d - The steering wheel speech function now fully integrated and invokes SIRI directly (I almost stoped the car and got out to jump in joy!😂)

Now for the 2016 Ultimate (jog/dial) quick update after we went for a late afternoon drive;
A - the update(s) centers purely around the map functionality.
B - you now have few additional map ‘modes’, default/Mocca/white that may suite different eyes/viewing tastes.
C - you can select 4 colors for the car icon.
D - you can select 4 colors for the route markings.
E - The vehicle speed is displayed on top of the speed limit icon, I thought that was the most useful addition, as it gives the same info as the HUD and 7” LCD, I know, I know it’s may sound redundant, but at least you’re aware of how much you are over the speed limit, regardless where eyes are looking at.
F - The map refresh is much smoother with pleasant, modern text fonts and touch icons.
G - there are few SMS integration enhancements but that is about it...

in summary, if the 2016 JOG/Dial update can Can be described as evolutionary, then IMHO the 2015/tech touch only, would definitely fall under the revolutionary category. 🍺

I have the Bluelink connected services. Im not sure if this is the connected services based routing, but the routing is much better, I noticed traffic jam avoidance in the new map routing is better than the Sirius traffic, last weekend on my 85 miles weekend drive from Atlanta to Macon (which I've done for the last 3 years). I noticed a new route was offered by the Nav, at first I was going to ignore it, but I started up Waze on my phone to get a second opinion, to my surprise, Waze gave the same route, which was due to crazy traffic jams caused from the protest marches we are having here in Atlanta, I think the new map update is well worth the price.

OK, a query to all you guys who dig down into the details.......
Just updated toV14 on my '16 3.8 2wd Jog dial.
When I near the end of a navigated trip, at lower left of map screen appears a small square box with a letter P in it and a black bar.
If I touch the P, the bar changes to blue; touch again and back to black.
Next startup, it's gone.
I cannot figure the function of the P box! Any ideas?
TIA

I noticed this too, but I didn't play around with it much. I'm wondering, P is usually for Parking, so does it maybe mark the location and interface with connected services somehow. Although, locating your car more than a mile away is possible now, so that sort of negates the need to mark your parking spot. I'm going to try to remember to play with it more!

Interesting I have to check that this weekend.

Anybody know how to cancel a trip? (jog dial version)

See the pause button on the lower right? Hold it for a couple of seconds.

Or

Voice command: Cancel route

Yup. I just ordered the v14 for US 2015 ultimate jog dial. $32 total. Much more reasonable than $180.

Thank you! This was killing me!

How delayed is USPS right now? Tracking shows it was processed in Irvine, CA on the 31st. It's been almost 2 weeks with no updates. Figured it should've hit Canada Customs by now?

Has anyone does the update while they drive around and run errands? Or should the car just sit and idle while updating?

The car should stay running throughout the upgrade

Yeah you're good to do that. Just know, you won't get your backup cam (and I'm not sure about climate control, as I did mine with the windows down since it was nice out) but you can reverse and drive wherever you need without affecting the update's progress. I popped in all the media, drove to my favorite brewery 15 minutes away, left it running in the parking lot while I popped in to pick up my to-go order, drove 15 minutes home, ran the beer inside to the fridge and when I got back within view of the screen in my driveway, it said the update was complete and would restart shortly. Right on the 35 minute estimate!

Thanks! Planning to do the update this weekend. Hope all goes well.

I did mine update while going to work. Set your desired inside temp before the update starts and you will be good to go.

I went for a nice ride. Did it on a Sunday morning no cars whatsoever on the road. Do the install and stretch her legs a bit. Clean out the carbon build up. You know the deal.
