Genesis is an awful company, full stop. If you're asking questions in this forum, you already know the answer, too. Listen to your gut and walk away.
Was writing whole awful story, but just taking too long. Bought my 2018 G80 Sport as demo from local Hyundai dealer with 9000 KM, had no idea about the service issues as no Genesis dealer close and local Hyundai dealer believed no issues handling Genesis service there.
Nope. Genesis refused him, as they want separate building to fully sell Genesis (although this place still sells the odd G70 and G80) and dealer wasn't doing that, as dealership brand new, huge, modern, etc. Then the Genesis dealer I was moved to refused to do the concierge pickup, saying I was too far from them. Cited a 50KM limit I'd never heard of before. Claimed no exceptions. I'm about 85 KM away. So maybe 25 minutes extra both ways on that drive. Doesn't seem like a huge deal to keep a buyer happy to me. And was willing to work with them on good day for them to do this, etc.
Found out a lot of dealers do make exceptions to this 50 KM pickup rule. Complained to Genesis. Actually had Genesis Canada rep call me, bitch to me, and claim that "you should have read the fine print." Nice. And this all right after dumping about $100 K on THREE new Hyundai/Genesis cars in previous six months. This was also about taking the car in for the engine recall work, so wasn't my complaint, or a request for an oil change. Serious recall work, but still no way would they pick up my car.
To make it all even more fun, I hit a pothole when driving car to the dealer for the recall work. $1500 in damage to front end. Not dealer's fault, of course, but I shouldn't have been driving the car that day in the first place IMO. So all still frustrating.
Also had a lot of fit and finish problems. Paint peeling off all four rims. No abuse, no cleaners, just hand washing the car. Apparently a known problem. Took them two months or more to okay repair. And still not done six months later because they took forever to respond and now into C19 where the dealer is now claiming I can't have a loaner. Odd that they're selling cars and offering demo drives. Seem to be able to disinfect cars just fine for that. Anyhow, I can't be without my car for 3-4 days or whatever rim work will take, so this is impossible for me.
Other issues include sunroof noise. Sunroof also now refusing to close at times. No obstruction. Just closes halfway and then opens again like something blocking it. Front windows both leak. Dealer asked I address these things in spring, supposedly easier to do then. And now I'm stuck with the "no loaner" thing so all of this stuff is on hold for a while. Also having major issue with Apple CarPlay and music streaming services. Basically, they don't work. Lots of hanging, wheel spinning no access, etc. Completely unreliable. Need software update. Tried multiple new cables etc. Believe still on 12 or 12.5 as never been updated. I asked them to do this when in for engine recall repair; they forgot.
Oh yeah. They didn't set something right or didn't flush system or something properly when they did the engine recall work. Heater only worked when car moving. Didn't catch this when picking up car as was always moving. Noticed after getting home, when warming car up next day. It didn't warm up. In January. So of course had to book another appointment and drive the car over two hours total to and from dealer to fix the problem that they made. That was a lot of fun, too.
So no thanks on Genesis. Lost a customer forever, mainly due to the chintzy crap about not coming to pick up my car and that "fine print" comment. All the little issues would be much more manageable if I felt I had a dealer behind me. I don't. Or corporate. Car will be gone as soon as it's financially sensible for me to move on. Do yourself a favour and don't get into this problem in the first place. So much awesome about these cars. But all meaningless without proper dealer and corporate support.
