If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hello,

Is anyone else having trouble with the leather trim peeling on their sport seats. I had this problem a few months ago at 7,900 miles and the seat cover was repaired under warranty. Now I pulled the my garage out of the garage for some cleaning an noticed it is beginning again at 9,800 miles. Last time it grew to over an inch long.

I don't wear anything like chains, or a cell phone holster. I literally only carry my leather wallet, cloth cased phone and the Genesis key fob. I have gotten rid of ALL other keys. Is this happening to anyone else? I'm getting scared.

I would assume they would easily replace the seat under warranty.

Has not happened to me, thankfully. I don't have the red stitching though, mine is grey stitching.

never seen that before. i had the red stitching on my sport seats too.

PS - give those seats a clean and condition, ha ha;)

Wow, actually I got the same thing in mine at the exact location. I thought it was just me accidentally scratching it. Which is weird, because I'm very careful and dont lean against the seat when I get in and out.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Well they already replaced mine once less than 2k miles ago and I've been paranoid since. We'll see what they say this time. Valet was supposed to pick it up 6 hours ago.

My guess is the piping was dinged originally. A repair is not going to last, as you're now experiencing

I can't find the paperwork saying what they did last time, but I could've sworn that they replaced the leather "seat cover". If that is so the whole thing would've been new.

I don't know what they are doing this time because no one has communicated with me since they took the car last week.

Just got my car back. They replaced the seat cover again. YAY! 1,200 for the seat cover and 160 for the labor

The dealer did let me know that Genesis was suspicious about it peeling so quickly and they believe that I am doing it. I get that, but I don't see myself doing anything out of the ordinary that would cause this. In fact I am now super paranoid and get out in the most uncomfortable way to avoid it. That cannot continue either.

Is there a protection product that I could put on just that area? I have a feeling clear packing tape and Texas sun is bad for leather and I don't want to put seat covers because I use the vented seats. Alternatively, does any one have a cheap source for the factory seat cover that I could squirrel away till its time to sell the car?

Well, so I just noticed today the same issue on my car with less than 1000 miles on it. I just took it to the dealer and they took a picture of it and will let me know what my options are. At first the service manage thinks that the upholstery guy they have will be able to fix this and if not, he said the Genesis will probably replace the entire seat. Will keep you guys updated. Here's the picture.

my fear is that as mileages increase, Genesis will call this wear and tear. i hope this does not become a common issue. hopefully (for the larger group) there is something that is directly causing this to happen for the couple guys reporting it here.

open carry states, catching your glocks on the piping?

I don't carry anything but a leather wallet, smartphone with tweed cover, and my Genesis fob. I have shed all keys and other BS from my daily life a few years ago when I got a keypad lock. What do you have?

@rserva I'm willing to bet that Genesis will replace it but please let me know what they tell you. I got the feeling they hassled the dealer this last time.

I could've sworn that mine started at just under 1,000 miles too. I let it go thinking I must not have inspected the car well enough and that why they negotiated with me. It grew to about 2 inches of the piping peeling and Genesis replaced it under warranty. This last time I'd estimate I got to 1,500 miles.

Here's some pictures of mine from back in April 2020.

Hey man, just put a little strip of moleskin over that. May look odd, but it will stop the wear, and not be uncomfortable. The adhesive is strong, but will not harm your leather. It will come off in a month or two, and you just replace.

Dealer was able to have the upholstery guy repair the issue but I don't think it will last a long time as it's starting to peal again.... Not sure if I should take it back? Wonder if they would replace the entire seat because of this?

I suspect that is coming from how you enter or exit the vehicle and the type of clothing you wear.

ive had my fair share of cars with sport seats that have thick boosters, jeans are their worst enemy because the denim will leave rub marks, also when entering or exiting, I have learned to back in ass first then turn after I sit and swing my legs in, as coming in right leg first will cause you to rub against that area and belts, jeans, jackets, etc will catch and rub on the piping.

I have the exact same issue with mine (less than 20K Km). They said they will replace seat cover so we'll see what they will do and I'll report back. I'm very careful and don't where anything sharp. Also, the valet driver said she's seen it on other G70s with the red trim so I think it's a common problem that Genesis must be aware of. Only other issue I had was the silver clip for the cargo net in trunk broke. It looks like this is just plastic, not metal and fairly thin so be gentle with it. Otherwise, I love my G70, great car and so much fun to drive!

I have the exact same issue in the same spot (less than 20K Km). I'm VERY careful with the car and don't wear any sharp items that are rubbing/catching on the piping. Genesis said they have ordered a new seat cover so I"ll see what that's about at the end of the month. The valet said she's seen it before on their other loaners with the red stitching, so I'm guessing it's a common problem and Genesis is aware of it. Also had the silver clip for the cargo net in the trunk break. This is not metal but plastic, so be careful with it. But kudo's to genesis they are replacing it as well. Great customer service so far and I absolutely love driving the G70!

Yes I believe this must be a common thing. They repaired for me but it's happening again so I have to take my car in to see what they'll do about it. I have only 3K miles on it.
