  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey all,

I need help/advice from you all...I have been having issues with my sunroof rattling for a while now, and the dealership finally realized that it was time to replace it. I took it in on Tuesday so they could work on it. I was told that when replacing the sunroof that the windshield would need to be replaced to because they crack.

Anyways, I got a call from the dealer yesterday and the tech mentioned that everything had been replaced and all that needed to be done was to get the headliner back in, and that I would be able to pick it up tomorrow (today). This morning i received a call from the service manager and the told me that the windshield was not on yet and one of the techs left my car outside and it rained...he wants me to go to the dealership to check the damage and see what can be worked out...

I'm not sure the best way to handle this situation, so I'm looking to see if you all had any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

No comment until you know the damage. There's gonna be a huge difference between 3 inches of rain vs a light sprinkle.

Makes sense. I will say that it was raining pretty heavily over the last couple days

What this says to me about my car is that I should have before photos of any repair that is likely to become an issue if poorly done. Interior work, particularly. Similar to having photos of interior of house and belongings for insurance loss. Sad to say this could be necessary. This comment does NOT mean this should be a loss claim on your insurance.

Ouch, that sucks!
Pictures! take lots of pictures!

There are a couple of ways to go about this. One is to start a lengthy complaint issue with corporate explaining the situation and seeking a satisfactory resolution for you. The other is I would have them check the car after completion completely both functionally and physically then have them state clearly on the work papers that the car was left outside in the rain without a windshield. In that way if things do start going south since a lot of sensitive equipment is there you have recourse to still seek resolution from corporate.

Wow, what moron would leave a car outside with no windshield, even it it isn't raining?
You're likely going to have all kinds of problems there, some of which may not show up right away.
I would have them pull the carpet in addition to fixing any electronics issues.
Last thing you need is to have mold show up inside.

Hope all works out for you.

ugh. what a sh!tshow. this highlights my OCD fears of stealership visits. sorry to hear this happened. sounds like they've turned a moderately difficult repair into a complete mess. i hope they make you whole, OP, but i would be very thorough with the inspection of the interior and electrical. you'll need some rock-solid assurance that everything is OK, and will remain OK for the duration of ownership. electrical issues can take a while to rear their heads...

Tell them just to swap it for a new one. Depending on how wet it got, you can have corrosion a year from now.If water got into electrical under the dash, not much different that a car in the middle of a river.

So the manager was actually really nice about the whole thing...he said that he isn’t going to let me drive the car again even if they were to fix everything...mentioned everything was soaked...infotainment system wasn’t even turning on...have to wait on insurance

Now I’m wondering if I want to stay with genesis after all of this. Decisions

You’ve lost money because them, they would have to give you a hell of a deal on a new car. Insurance payout would only be for the current value...which is obviously low with the pandemic and depreciation on a luxury car. Did you finance?

Yeah I financed. Just have to wait and see what happens

^ i don't blame you for feeling this way. not sure how i would react if i was in your shoes...but my guess is i would stray from being diplomatic if you catch my drift.

that said, i also wouldn't hold it against the brand. this incident should never have happened - no question. but it likely boils down to 1 or 2 people simply doing the wrong thing, and an overall lack of QC by the Service department. might have been a bad day for one guy, or it could be sign of a poor dealership that you want to avoid in the future. not really a fault of Genesis though.

let's see how they address it, but water damage and modern cars do not mix. if the manager was saying that "everything was soaked...infotainment system wasn’t even turning on", that's a very bad sign and i would be treading very cautiously. it'll be the dealer's insurance, not yours (i hope), but once they close out the claim they may indemnify themselves against future related claims. at which point you'd be stuck dealing with the problems.

all the best for a fair resolution that makes you whole. and hopefully you don't need to call Saul...

hopefully you don't need to call Saul...

That made my day!!🤣

I get exactly what you’re say...it’s definitely not Genesis’ fault. As you said we will see how they go about the next steps of this process and I will figure it out from there

I'm hopeful they give you fair compensation for their mistake.

Good luck, and keep us updated!

Dang. My buddy got heavy rain in his Jeep GC, and by the time he noticed mold growing it was too late. It was growing in everything remotely like fabric. Nothing worked to get it out. It would always come back from some dark crevice. Driving it for a few minutes gave him headaches. Eventually sold it for 500$ I think to someone who was going to gut it. I can’t even imagine the stupidity of someone leaving a 50k luxury car outside without a windshield. Oops I forgot. Sorry dude.
Geez..
I know it’s unconventional, but I’d want the dealership to do a even trade with a similar CPO and then they can try to fix the car up. Keep in mind this may flag on insurance reports as a water damage vehicle. You’ll never know the true damage of it and it could haunt you for the lifetime of the car. And cost you.

Why not? It was not the fault of Genesis that some idiot at a dealership screwed up. Sounds like they are attempting to make you whole as you should be.

My take? I want a new car, not yours repaired because of potential future problems. I;d refuse anything that cost me money.

If I drove away in a new and equal car at no cost I'd be happy. If they tried so screw me I'd talk to a lawyer but no sense paying them if they make good. In the terms of real life dollars it is not a big deal for the insurance and dealer to do the right thing. Give them a chance to do it.

That's insane at the level of carelessness, I would file a complain with every agency I can think of, get a check and find another brand, F them all!
