  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All,

Has anyone purchased an extended warranty from their dealer (or from some other source), and if so, how much was it and how satisfied are you with it? Thanks,

Russ

Hey Russ...my story is I obtained a gently used 2016 Ultimate w/12K from a guy in Florida last fall(I am in MI). I am the 3rd owner...the guy in Florida(2nd owner) bought if from a Dealer with 800 miles. He then obtained a Platinum Bumper to Bumper warranty from the dealer good for 10 years/!00K miles at his cost(think he said it was about 1500.00). That warranty was transferrable to me(40.00 paperwork filing fee). So that gave me added peace of mind with purchasing this car in that I am covered till 2025 and I now have 16K on the clock. It has been flawless to date(knock on wood..:))..If you read thru other threads as I have I think you will find MOST of the members believe in that added warranty coverage(at added cost). Most believe as I do now...with all the electronics on these cars is that all it takes is the head unit to go and replacement costs could be 3K easy...other electronics are not cheap either. So it does boil down to what ever allows you to sleep good and not worry about $$$$ repair bill IF NEEDED. IF you have the money to set aside for these repairs...then maybe up front added warranty costs might not be as necessary. Did not feel this way years ago. Always thought it was a way for a dealer to make more $$$....but technology does not come cheap..especially in car repairs. Others will chime in soon I would think and give you some added thoughts I am sure. Stay safe and healthy...John

Hi Russ.
My story is this.
The last 2 cars I bought were used, a 2008 Mazda Miata and a 2014 Taurus SHO.
I bought the "Platinum" warranty on both which supposedly covered most things.

I kept the Miata for 2 years and since nothing went wrong , I cancelled the warranty and got 900 back when I traded it in for the SHO.

I kept the SHO for 3 years and had to have the drivers side door touch panel and door handle replaced at my cost of around 1000.00 as the warranty did not cover these parts even though they are electronics. The reason was stated to be that they are exterior parts.
I got about 400 back when trading in the SHO for the G70.

I treat these warranties more like insurance in that if you really need it, it's there (most times).
Just know that there are some instances where something won't be covered.
