Remarkably Similar

My wife and I decided to give her Civic to our daughter so that she and her fiance would have a safer way to get around in our new reality - his family is in Ottawa while we are an Uber away (but not in this environment). After a little searching we ended up with a low mileage 2019 Infiniti Q60 3.0 T Sport (dealer demo). Performance aside what surprised me is how similar they are in size - no more than fractions of an inch different, other than the fact that the Q has a 76 L fuel tank vs 60 L for the G70.

The notable difference was the purchase experience. I'll rate the test drive as roughly equal - Genesis delivered a car for an overnight test and while we had to go to the Infiniti dealer due to Covid they set us up with the car and said take it and come back when you're ready. Where Genesis, or maybe my particular dealer falls short is the delivery experience. The G70 was a demo so no home delivery - they're selling you a used car so you go to the dealer to pick it up and the experience is like you're some shlub picking up a 5 year old Accent. The Infiniti dealer delivered the car to our house and the salesperson spent some quality time reviewing all the features and making sure my wife has comfortable with the car

That said, the real purpose of this was to post some pictures of the car.

I'll say I think I did well on the G70 and really well on the Q60 - almost $12k off list plus 4 years of pre-paid scheduled maintenance. Mileage was close enough not to factor into the cost.

A piece of red tint will take care of it if it starts to bug me. It's a great looking car - maybe better looking than the G70 (flamesuit on).

A number of folks here came out of an Infiniti so a lot of us have similar taste. I had a G37S. Nothing bad to say about them for I loved mine. You have the ability to do additional comparisons between your Q model and your G70 over time on how they are holding up and any maintenance issues? I get your wife has the Q and sometimes getting our significant others to get on the same wave length with us when talking about a car issue can be difficult. This is certainly not an Infiniti forum but I think for comparison purposes there are folks here like myself who would be interested to know how well each is holding up over time and any unique problems with one vs the other? A quick blurb if something worth mentioning comes up between the two cars might be worth discussing every now and then.

There's one that parks in the same complex my office is in. I always want to park next to it, but it's kinda in the next building and they are never parked where I can have a "choice" parking spot. I gawk at it every time. (BTW a "choice" parking spot is one where you're next to an edge or barrier or something so you can hug that line as far away from the line on the opposite side, where presumably someone would park and ding the heck out of your doors when they get out of their car and carelessly flip their Yukon door open).

The Q60 is gorgeous but it is a coupe so my inner 12 year old would agree it looks better than the G70. Imagine what a coupe version of the G70 would look like

True! But if we're honest, the back-seat in our cars is about as functional as a coupe's lol.

I agree ! It kind messes with my OCD a little. Makes it look out of of place. Beautiful car !!

True! But if we're honest, the back-seat in our cars is about as functional as a coupe's lol.

I dont know, my daily for the previous 8 years was an actual coupe and the G70 for me seems like sooo much more room so it doesnt bother me one bit. But yea...compared to other sedans Ive sat in, its kind of crazy

^ yeah, i almost went coupe instead of the G70, but with 2 kids having the rear doors is a must. i know the g70 rear seats are not exactly limo-like, but for kids & booster seats it is perfect. far better than having to squeeze behind the front door to jam into the back. makes those rainy daycare pickups so much less of a hassle not having to hold the door open for a minute while they pile into the back seat. with rear doors it is a much easier and quicker process.

Same thing, only "dog" instead of "kids/booster seats". Doors required.

how do you keep your dog from destroying your interior? Im terrified of putting them back there and seeing their paws on the leather/nice plastics on the doors as they try to look out the windows, but I really want to find a solution

Interestingly (or perhaps not so interestingly), I've had coupes as daily drivers for more than 15 years prior to getting my G70. I was totally unaccustomed to having four doors. I find the 4 door configuration slightly easier to get kids in and out of the back, but not dramatically so. In terms of actual interior space, there's really no difference. In fact, there are things I miss about the 2 door, including being able to toss a briefcase or umbrella on the floor behind my seat when entering the car. I'm pretty sure I'll want to go back to the coupe for my next car.

I know that coupes don't sell well, and I'm sure the product development folks at Genesis can't justify a business case for making a coupe. But it seems that the other luxury brands continue to produce them as part of the cost of doing business. The sheer variety of body styles (SUV (two and three rows), sedan, coupe, convertible, "gran coupe" (4 door hatchback)) add to the number of choices that luxury buyers expect. I applaud Genesis's willingness to invest in sedans at a time when sedan sales are in decline, but product choice and customization are the things luxury buyers want.

^ A coupe was included in the original road map for the Genesis lineup, but not surprisingly, it was the model designated to be developed last.

At this juncture, wouldn't be surprised if the coupe ends up being on the new RWD platform, esp. as rumors suggest that the impending coupe will be a larger GT in size.
