  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I finally got around to checking my 12V outlets today and as I suspected the fuses were blown. no biggie, I just ran down to autozone and picked up replacements, plugged them in and power was back - problem solved right? wrong!

Just for kicks I grabbed my phone charger to test and within 1 second the fuse blew. Tried the 2nd outlet and same thing! I'm making an appointment with the dealer tomorrow but I think I'm out of warranty so I'm worried about the cost.

Anyone else have something like this happen? I'm guessing its a short in the socket or a broken wire somewhere because it's fine until I plug something in. Wondering if it might be worth it to investigate myself.

Thoughts anyone? TIA.

Did you try plugging something else in besides your phone charger? If the fuse doesn't open until you plug in the charger, my guess is the charger is faulted. If the socket itself was faulted the fuse would open with nothing plugged in.

That is one thing to definitely try but also take a peek that some piece of junk did not fall into the socket too.

Greetings to both of you, Speeder and EdP. Newbie posting here. I am not a GenOwner yet but home to become one soon.

I tend to agree with Speeder for the reason cited by him. The short occurs only when the charger is plugged in. If the short were due to debris, it would blow the fuse as soon power is supplied to the socket.

Ok I did a resistance check and you guys might be right. I get a short between the positive and ground on the charger if I push the little tabs all the way in. I remember the Genny sockets feel tighter than other cars so that could explain why it was fine in the rental last week.

GF has the other car so I'll have to wait till she gets home to check functionality. Probably gonna buy another charger too and see how that works.
