  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Been having some problems with my fuel door releasing lately... It's starting to take 4 or 5 tries with the interior switch to get it to pop open.

Nothing appears to be broken - I did hit the "plunger" and the inner door tab with some silicone spray and that helped for a little while. Ideas?

I had the same problem after I put a dab of silicone grease. Cleaned of the plunger to where it was nice and dry, no grease or evidence of grease. Works good now. That's all I got skipgen.

That's weird... Mine worked better for a while after I greased it. Now that it's dry, it seems to be sticking again.

Mine was the opposite. I have not put gas in the car in 5 weeks . I will try it tonight. Its very annoying when it sticks.
Yeah... I don't want to have to be in the position to have to try to pry it open.

Emergency fuel filler door release
If the fuel filler door does not open
using the remote fuel filler door
release button, you can open it manually.
Pull the handle of the release
located on the left side of the luggage
compartment outward slightly

My fuel filler door intermittently sticks, too. When it will not open with a push of the interior button, I simply get out of the car and give a gentle "push" on the outside of the fuel filler door. Always, after that, another push on the interior button opens the fuel filler door.

As I said, this is intermittent - temperature related? frequency of use related? ... not sure ...

It is slightly irritating, though, and I would like to know a way to permanently eliminate the sticking ...

By the way, dealer had no suggestions

I agree! Its kind of a pain. I do the same thing you do. Now that you say temp related I kind of think mine is. Cold weather no problem, hot weather it sticks.

Not sure if that will do it - I can hear the actuator moving when pushing the interior button. I'll give it a shot sometime...

Weird. Haven't had any issue until the last couple of weeks. If anything it's been relatively cool lately by Texas standards.... Seems like lubing the catch would help.

Yeah same thing with mine. You can hear it moving but the do don't open. Strange and its a real pain in the but. I am going to try and look into tonight. Let us know if you find a fixed skipgen.

Funny, last night I tried giving the door a little push before opening with the interior button & it popped right out...! Weird.

Reading this thread I thought I’d have a look see at the fuel door emergency release and lo and behold I’m not seeing one in the location mentioned. This on a 16’ Ultimate.

I haven't actually looked for it - I'll have a peek today when I go out to the car.

Wondering if it might be behind the panel on the drivers side?🥴

I have the same issue. The release pin would move, but the door would not release. I found that the spring which pushes the fuel door open had weakened. I tried bending it back but got only temporary relief. My "solution" has been to insert a bendy silicone blade in a "c" shape over the gas cap and compressing it when I close the fuel door. The pressure against the door from the inside reliably forces the fuel door open when I hit the release button now. It's not the most elegant solution, but it works and I don't have to deal with dirty looks from the guy lined up for gas behind me at Costco.

LOL - The gas line @ Costco is where my gas door gave me the finger for the first time!
