2016 Equus Trans flush miles

Hey folks,
Took my Equus to dealer today and asked about push pull during gear change.
Many here said ask them to set it to relearn shift timing and they can set that.
And they said recommended trans flush is at 60K miles ( I have 70K miles). Does this sound correct?

Do you have the manual? Go by that.

Under “normal” driving conditions: “No check, no service required” per the service manual.

Under “severe” conditions: “ATF of 8 speed automatic transmission doesn’t need to be replaced in normal usage. If the vehicle is used severely in business or personal use, replace ATF every 60,000 miles.” Per the service manual.

If you plan on keeping the vehicle I would service the trans. If not keep going with it.

Thanks, Thing is, I don't know how the car was driven before I bought it. So, to be safe, I'm going to get it flushed and programmed to re-learn.

You can't go wrong. I have a 04 impala with 165k original trans. Change fluid and filter every 30k.

Took the car in today, they said they didn't want to flush the tranny, said it could cause damage. (I understand all the theory behind it)
They did a relearn, I will try it for a week, if i still have the push/pull jerking, i will have the fluid changed. They also said they could call in for inspection from extended service company and see what they say.

Replacing the pan may be further than you’re willing to go, but I think you should drain/fill the fluid regardless.

I agree princelybug. Change the fluid you won't regret it.

Pan? They told me the Equus didn't have a filter, is there a filter in the pan?

Yes. The filter is integrated into the pan.

Ahh, I asked and questioned the service writer about the filter and was told there was NO filter in this model. I found that hard to beleive, now it makes sense.

It is recomended at 60k. I just did mine at 51k. Why wait...

The service writer is incorrect. The 2016 Equus model does have a filter located in the transmission pan. My 2015 Genesis 5.0 and your 2016 Equus 5.0 share the same A8TR1 8 speed automatic transmission, which has the filter built into the transmission pan.

Therefore, I would change the transmission filter and fluid around 60k-80k miles if you are going to keep the car pass 100k miles for the best chance for a long reliable working transmission pass the warranty period.

Mark, I had the same issue with the dealers in the Twin Cities - MN. Not one dealer was familiar with a ZF transmission, so some dealers weren't interested in servicing the transmission and another had to "research" how this process was done. This dealer called me after their research and quoted me $400, including the pan with built in filter. I knew that there was no way the price could only be $400, so I brought my car to a well known Indi performance shop that does great work. I paid a total bill of $1,400 and this included tax and a drain and refill of my engine coolant in addition to the transmission service. I will only need to service the transmission once in my ownership, so I can live with the price.

Change the trand fluid yes. Flush the transmission no! There is a difference.
