I just add gas additive around the oil change times as it makes it easier to remember.

I prefer to use Techron before oil changes, and finish the tank before I change the oil. Just in case it gets into the oil. After all, it's designed to break down deposits - not something I'd want getting in the oil. I realize it's not likely to get into the oil... but it makes me feel better doing it my way.

On older cars that need heavier cleaning, I'll run a 20 oz bottle through 1/4 tank to get a stronger mixture. Then run a 2nd bottle through on a full tank. I add the stuff, then add the gas. I have seen much better results using two back to back cleanings.

The stuff does work... my mother in law's 2004 Toyota 4Runner was running very rough, and after one bottle it ran a lot better... but still stuttered a bit at idle. A 2nd bottle cleared that up.

have you used the techron already on your g80 ? You have used 20oz then fill it up with gas ? How do you feel about lucas fuel injector ?

No, only 4,700 miles on the car. I'm using a good grade full synthetic oil every 5k miles, and only Top Tier fuel, so probably won't use Techron until 15k miles. Or more.

Besides, it doesn't clean intakes of GDI engines because the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber, not the intake.

I did not know that Lucas made fuel injectors. I know they make fuel additives.

what brand of full synthetic oil are you using ? And you are right probably no point, but its not like it will damaged anything either.

Pennzoil Platinum.

Clarification
Option 1: The way I have done it for 30 years.
Gas tank near empty.
Put in 20oz Techron Concentrate (TC). Be aware there is a cheaper/less concentrated version (Techron fuel injector cleaner I think).
At same time (or actually just after adding TC ;) ) fill tank.
My hypothesis on putting in TC first then filling with gas is it will mix better.

Option 2: Recent way I've been trying. Creates a more concentrated TC:gas ratio.
Fuel gauge at 1/2 tank
Add 20oz Techron Concentrate.
Do NOT fill-up gas tank.
Drive daily as normal. When fuel gauge reaches near empty refill tank.
Do you need to worry about mixing? Isn't the gas constantly being pumped to the fuel rail with the excess circulated back to the tank?

Guys I understand yall said for the 3.8 L V6 - regular gas is perfectly fine. But i just want to fill the car up with premium gas for one time sake lol. Just one time then after use regular for now on. Is that okay ? Premium gas will not in any way affect it negatively, no drawbacks, if i use it once ?

Surely, it is a returnless fuel system. I think that most (or all) cars switched to that a while back for emissions reasons. This being a GDI system must certainly be so.

Sure. Only thing it may hurt is your wallet. Go for it.

Send me the $0.50/gallon difference, put in 87 octane and we will both be happy!

Running premium (91/93) in the 3.8 will have no drawbacks other than the additional cost.

I was not aware of that. Good info... fuel rail? Like a tube that contains flowing fuel, ready to feed the injectors?

I topped off my tank with 93 to see if it would smooth out a very slight rough
idle (4700 miles on car) and I think it helped. But then again, it was a very slight rough idle. One that sometimes you can detect, sometimes you don't. Not sure if the gas really helped, as I rarely even notice it. Otherwise I use a top tier regular 87 all the time.

What are you averaging most of time in your rwd ? I dont know if you already answered if you did pardon me. Is it 50/50 split

I'm not a good candidate to offer an average. Seems like I do a ton of idling in this car. I'm doing a lot of short trips to pick up food, or grocery shop while my wife sits in the idling car.

My latest 1,800 mile average is 18.1, but my day to day in the city without idling is usually around 19-21.
