  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HID bulb went out on my 2013 3.8L Premium package. Dealership is quoting $290 for one bulb so I'm looking for an aftermarket replacement.

Been looking at different options from Phillips and Oram but was curious what you guys have used for replacements. I love the colour and temp of the OEM bulbs so would like something close to that, but I'm open to something whiter as well.

If anyone knows the rating of the OEM bulb, that info would be appreciated as well (4300k, 5000k etc).

My SAAB 9-5 Aero uses the same D1S bulbs. I chanced it and grabbed a pair of "Fly Kan" bulbs which are made by Supervision. I got them from Amazon for about $40 CAD per pair. You can choose the color temp you want. I had one instance of a bad set (I ran the bulbs for a few years, over 60,000 km's. Keep in mind that on a SAAB, the headlights are always on no matter what as soon as you start the car). Only once did I have a bulb go bad early and the seller quickly sent me a new pair with no issues. I ran 4300k temperature but then changed to 5000k temperature later. I only had one issue in the 4 years I've been running these bulbs.
They are actual "Xenarc" bulbs for the igniter which is the same as Osram and Philips. Supposedly they aren't just rebuilt, the company is their own manufacturer.

Thanks for the input, I'll check them out! What was the reason for switching from the 4300k to the 5000k?

4300 seemed a tad on the yellow side with these bulbs. 5000 was perfect.
