If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dark chrome trim

Update. Dealer installed new smoked chrome window tint on Friday morning. Took about 2.5 hours and looks brand new. They did a great job, no charge of course. This is Hyundai of Central Florida in Clermont. Sorry I did not get before and after photos. On a very demanding project at work that is occupying a lot of mental real estate. :wacky:

I'v e been hit and I have no idea where it came from. The Driver Side lower door trim has unsightly scratches the same as discussed here and there not on any other part of the car. Taking her in tomorrow to discuss with service.

Took the car in today, showed it to the Advisor and Service Manager, Covered under warranty and parts will be in at the end of the week, providing the Corona doesn't slow down delivery.

Covered under warranty? Dang.. That's great. How long have you owned your car? Your dealership sounds way nicer than mine.

Wow. Seems they would have ordered what was needed, gave your car back, when parts come in call you to set up an appmt. Drivability wasn’t affected so surprised they gave a loaner out that long. I’m partial to my car so would assume drive it while parts are on a slow boat from Korea.

No shit, my dealer has done a TSB to buff the trim twice now and the chrome still looks bad. Genesis told the dealer they wouldn't authorize replacement of the trim, that when the dealer suggested the second try at buffing the trim with intent to document the results. Then my dealer told me, “If you call Genesis direct you’ll probably get further with them than we did.”

The worst part is I brought this to their attention back in early December and a series of circumstances, on the dealer’s end, has carried this out to as recently as last week. So I’ll call Genesis on Monday and throw a fit. I hate being “that guy” but ffs this has gotten old.

I was adding some subwoofers found this under and back of rear seats
Look into buying a product called RUST COP, it’s made by a company called CARWELL. It comes in a aerosol can and helps mitigate corrosion. Just spray it lightly on those areas every year and half or so and it shouldn’t continue.

Most of the dark chrome pieces I think are plastic, or plastic covers so not sure we can get actual corrosion on them? Staining and scratches, yes. Why some have this issue more easily than others is what I’d like to know? I’ve had a few instances of what looked like stain/spots on door handles and around the front grill, but with some spray on show shine or quick detailer, the stains seem to wipe off just fine at the moment.

Anyone else having a problem with their dark chrome trim on the G70 sport? Mine on the back window area has completely discolored and looks scratched. I checked to see if there was a film on there, but there is nothing.

Back to the dealer I guess!

Yes. Maybe 5 or 6 months after getting the car, the passenger side trim went scratchy and discolored while the passenger side looked new. It took the dealership a few weeks to get the parts because I apparently wasn't the first customer with this problem and the dealer's supply of trim was out. In a fit of seeming jealousy, the driver side chrome went flat and scratchy within a week of the passenger side being replaced. I gave the dealership a heads up when bringing it in for an oil change and they replaced the driver side at that time.

I was surprised to read that a dealership gave someone here lip over replacing the trim under warranty. It's a "duh," for me. I hadn't done anything to the trim other than washing it along with the rest of the car and it's hard to imagine what sort of spray (I live in an urban/agriculture boundary) could have so ravaged the trim so quickly, on one side and then the other, without affecting any other finish.

My 2019 Genesis G70 Sport has the same door trim issues
Did you have Hyundai/Genesis replace the door handles yet?
My passenger side door handle cosmetically shows semi discoloration and I showed that to the service adviser at my first oil change and they agreed to replace it under warranty,
When Hyundai service adviser who called me said the part is in if I wanted to go ahead with the replacement.
I then asked him how long it'd take to do this.
He who paused for a second then said I don't know because no one in the shop had done this before and that he suggests they might have to open up the inside door panel to do it.
Right there I told him to wait until I get more info from the forum members who might have gone thru this path before me.
There was no way I wanted someone open up the door panel just to replace a discolored door handle but otherwise functional.

Snapping o

Snapping off the door panel should not be a big deal as long as they replace broken clips. Really hard to release all clips and not break one or two. There is normally a plastic stick on film over the inside of the door to help prevent air leaks into the cabin. They will cut thru this to access the hardware to release the handle and to unclip the bar that unlatches the door catch. They should seal this film back up so in winter time you don’t get a draft on that door. I’d look at the repair receipt to be sure something is listed about replacing the film or patching it with recommended tape.

I write estimates on cars all day long and you can’t remove the handle on 99% of cars without taking the door trim off. Most modern cars the vapor barrier is not to be reused per the manufacture. Most of it has to do with the side air bags and the sensors in the doors. Just a slight variation in the door has effect on the air bag timing.

Based on previous posts's comment. I will have to live with that cosmetic issue which is no bigger deal than letting someone molesting your vehicle for something is not even worth it. Thanks guys.

My smoke finish Was spotted and looked filmy and would not clean off, they first said they would replace the trim, when Genesis saw it was to be replaced, the dealer got a message from Genesis they were sending so special chemicals to clean it , now I have a shiny Crome finish, which the dealer says was always that way. We’re also in a dispute about rattle in sun roof...

The shiny chrome finish is easy, take the dealer out to his lot and show him a new car. Your trim either matches or it does not? If the dealer altered your trim finish, tell um to put it back the way it was so it matches other cars. Will be hard for them to weasel out I would think. I’m thinking Genesis has all our dark trim coated so if you polish it the coating gets removed and you have plain chrome finish remaining.

Same thing happened here, turned it into chrome. They ordered new dark chrome trim same day after they did it.

How long did it take for the trim pieces to arrive? My dealer allegedly ordered replacement trim for my vehicle, but that was almost 3 weeks ago.

Has anyone tried one of the specialized hard water/water spot removers to see if that helps? I have some on order...curious to see if it helps...
