  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone

I recently tried to replace my 2015 G2 ultimate shifter with a "universal" kit and had a horrible time. I spent over an hour and was unable to get it to work. There are no threads on the shifter apparatus, and none of the adaptors that came with the kit fit correctly, nor could I get the button to operate the shifter. That said, it was a very cheap kit. I'd really like to have a broad type shifter similar to what is in the G80. I feel like it's just more comfortable for cruising! Does anyone know of such a shifter kit that would work? While researching this, I came across this picture ... this is the kind of thing I'd like:

If anyone knows what kind of knob is used in that picture, or something similar, I'd really appreciate help locating it or something similar.

Thanks!

Use a G80 shifter. I think they’re direct fit.

thanks for the reply but I've been told it's a different shifting apparatus as the g80 has an electronic shifter as opposed to the one you physically move into position... maybe lower trims of g80 have a compatible shifter? I don't know...

your picture is from a G80.

Yes, that one should fit. I'm not sure on the internal release linkage but I think you need a different release lever part too.

Great, thanks for the help, I'll follow up when it arrives.

interested to see if this works. i think the shift knob on my genesis is the only thing i dislike on the interior. i would love to have the wider handle style.

ok so I got the shifter but, the above poster was correct... the G2 internal release is not compatabile. Additionally, it appears I also need the g80 boot as the threading on the two parts is slightly different, preventing it from locking into place, see pix. I have since ordered the following parts:

84640E
46720D

Hoping I'm not wasting my money, but I really want this to work! I'll update when they come in.

Sorry! great timing but bad news...
I couldn't get it to work, so I brought it to the dealer the other day. They tell me the side button shifter isn't compatible with the genesis sedan :( also no way to retrofit it because the innards of the shifter assembly is the ONLY thing that isn't almost exactly the same on the sedan as the G80....so I have a $100 paper weight!!!

quote from another thread.
"
You can install it and set up hight as needed.
I installed it on multiple cars (all Genesis 2015) including mine.

You'll have to cut the metallic tube and adjust the plastic part for the button press in order to function normally. "

i messaged the guy to see if he can help you out. hopefully they reach out to you
