If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Maybe I am wrong, but I think this is a little silly.
Prepaid maintenance includes tire rotation, but they want $75 to put my winter tires on. The winters are already mounted on their own rims.
Like its exactly the same amount of work to rotate or put the winters on. Ugh. Way to nickel and dime you.

well to be fair rotating tires is actually more work. instead of taking them off and replacing with a winter tire that is right there and ready, they actually have to walk to the next tire remove it, then walk back to the original location and mount it, and this has to be done 3 times, then the first tire has to be walked to the other side of the vehicle and mounted

a lot more work to rotate IMO.

(satire)

So I called and spoke to the dealer to get more clarification. Apparently prepaid service (In Canada anyway) only includes rotating the tires every 20,000km. Like WTF, the manual says to do it every 10,000 km. So stupid. Why sell prepaid service if it doesn't cover the required service?

Greed. Prepaid service plans are money makers for them and my guess is that this is their way of making more money if you happen to haggle them down on it

Don't know how it works in Canada, but in the US, the maintenance is included with the car. And the amount that Genesis pays us to do the services is very small. We make very little on them.

Yeah same in Canada, the maintenance comes with it. Just annoyed that what the manual says is required, is different then what is included.

in CAD we get 5 yrs "free" maintenance - as it is scheduled in the OM.

as for tire rotation vs a mounted tire/wheel changeover, most dealers are flexible on this and will work with you. my dealer will do either, as will the Toyota dealer my wife uses which includes rotation with a service package. instead, they do the mounted changeover for no additional cost. of course, because as others have noted the labour to do a changeover is equivalent or less.

i am only referring to mounted/balanced tire and wheel combos in the above.

Odd. I just had my first 10k km service done a few weeks ago, and it included tire rotation. They didn't do it because of the staggered tires but it did say on the service summary that tire rotation is part of "Genesis Service 1".

If you want, I can send you a picture of the service summary and you can show that to the dealer and ask them to explain the discrepancy. Don't see how service schedules can be different between provinces.

so not really a vent about prepaid service, but i have a rant about my recent 'free' annual service. this was my 2nd such annual service done by Genesis...at a local Hyundai dealer of course.

i made it clear that i did not want them to wash the car as always, which they got right and didn't do thankfully. they were going to vacuum/clean the interior but didn't do that. no big deal but a bit of a disappointment. i told them about the miss but couldn't wait around for them to make good. everything went well with the G70 loaner they gave me. good service and they had it warmed up for me.

as far as i can tell, everything went OK with the service order. on top of the annual service itself i had them look at squealing brakes when warm and creaking from the sunroof. they performed a brake service and lubricated the sunroof and did a road test. so far so good.

what wasn't great was the sloppy workmanship. my red calipers were almost completely black with brake lube/grease. there were greasy hand/arm smudges over the hood, grille, windows in/out, and other areas of paint. the steering wheel and shifter were 'tacky' and clearly not COVID disinfected, nor had they used a paper floor mat or seat cover. both front door sills (the black rubber gasket/plastic part) looked like someone had tap-danced on them which is a pet peave of mine. there was lube/grease on the sunroof glass and nearby paint and trim, as well as on the passenger headrest from when they tried to fix the sunroof creaking - too early to tell if that problem is solved.

i don't intend to sound like a diva or an uber-picky owner. but i do notice more than most owners would. none of these are huge issues or show stoppers, and the service rep tried to clean off the calipers once i pointed out the mess. 10 minutes with 303 protectant and a rag dealt with most of the interior scunge, and exterior stuff should come clean with the next wash. but it once again highlights the compromised nature of having a 'luxury' brand service being done at a Hyundai dealer not accustomed to higher expectations.

on the positive side, it sure is nice not having to pay ~$600 which is what the line items added up to (or more).

Were the brakes the bulk of the $600?

Yeah that is weird.
I emailed Genesis Canada to see what they say.
But the dealer told me they do Service 1,2,1,3,1,2,1,3, etc
And service 1 does NOT include tire rotation.

The dealer ended up doing the tire change for me this time, but has insisted that going forward they will only do a tire rotation (or tire swap) every second service

By Genesis you mean experience@genesis.ca? Oh man. Say hi to my boy Jean-Christophe for me.

Show them this (screenshot). All services include tire rotation.

In Canada, I've found the service to be very inconsistent. The state's have it worse. I've been to 4 different Hyundai (Genesis) for service and have had 4 different experiences in what they do.

The funniest would be in Mississauga, Ontario where the same place had different checklists. The service manger had a checklist to go off of, a Genesis person who emailed me from Mississauga had another checklist and my manual showed something else.

It's a real shame. If Genesis wants to stay competitive as a luxury brand they need to get these simple things down on lock. I really hope they do soon because I love my G70 and I want to see them do well.

They didn't do it because of the staggered tires
I hear this often and correct me if I’m wrong but staggered tires still get rotated. It’s that they only get rotated side to side instead of Front and back . I think It is worth rotating.

Yup side to side is the proper procedure. I attached a screenshot of our manual. I've spoken to a tech who tried to argue with me on this point and her defense was the tires are directional (They are not) so she can't change them side-to-side.

yup side to side, I was told the same thing at the dealer and I pointed it out in the manual to them. haven't had an issue with them since, they always rotate side to side, and I mark the tires each visit to be sure they are actually doing it.

Yes you are correct, they are not directional the dealer is just lazy.

Luckily,

Luckily, I've moved and my new local dealership really knows what they're doing. I've gone in a couple times to chat and get to know them and see how they feel about Genesis.

Not that big of an issue for rotations since in Canada I'm on winters for a majority of the year. For that I've gotten a square setup and do it myself.

However, I know not everyone can do it themselves and if they've paid for the service they should be getting everything that's in our manual.

Yes you are all correct, I should've elaborated. They should have atleast swapped side to side but wasn't a big deal for me cause I'll be swapping out for winters soon and can do it myself come spring.

However, the winter rubber sold in Canada, Xice3, is directional.

or misinformed. Which is what I believe.
