  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I recently bought a 2016 Genesis 3.8 (3 weeks ago). I have a push start engine. Monday after work I tired to leave the house, I started my car, but the steering wheel was locked. I couldn't turn what so ever, though I could reverse and drive forward without turning. I had a tow truck take it to the Hyundai dealership, but they can't figure it out. It's been there all week. Tuesday the mechanic said he can get power to it, but they won't turn. It only has 34,000 miles that I bought from a different dealership. Its still under warranty because of the miles.

What did your mechanic say about this issue?

Sounds like the electric steering module has failed

These cars don’t have a hydraulic steering pump, the power steering is assisted by an electric motor.

Is this covered under the warranty??

should be covered through the 5/60K basic warranty for sure, I see nothing in the warranty book excluding it.

Ok, I figured because like I said it has 34,000 miles. I don't understand what is taking them so long to find out the problem. They have had it since Tuesday. I will try to contact them again Monday morning to see what they have figured out.

If it is not a common failure then they would be in contact with Hyundai engineering which will have to create a troubleshooting SOP (standard operation procedure) before they can move forward with a tear down.

Essentially a step by step guide in everything that as to be tested, removed, replaced, and reinstalled.

Yeah, thanks for the information and insight. Hopefully when I call tomorrow, they can give me some answers. I miss my Gensis lol!!

So after almost 2 weeks, (and after I had to go up there in person because I'm hold many times with no answer), they said it was the steering module. They mentioned that it also looked like the owner before had it worked done on it because is was missing some parts. So, the warranty won't cover the repairs. So I went and talked to the actual dealership I purchased from and they said the would like at it. They me toned I could trade it in for a other Genesis that they have but I don't like them. Plus, I asked the Hyundai rep, and as long as they fixed the OEM, it would work just fine, and that the warranty would work after if something happens. It was just because it was missing parts. So I am trying to see how much this part cost, so that I can have more information when I speak to the dealership when they get it to thier location. I mean I only had the car for 2 or 3 weeks and this happens. I rather them fix it at THIER expense rather than trading it in for another car. What does the OEM replacement part cost? So that I cam go in with more insight on total cost of getting my car that up and running. My first payment is on th 24th of may. Help with cost please!!

Without knowing the actual part number it is hard to say.

But this should help.

Hello, was there a resolution to this? I have a 2016, 49,000 miles, in addition to factory warranty I have a vehicle service contract, and it, too, happened yesterday morning. I disconnected the battery, took an Uber, and this morning, reconnecting the battery, the steering wheel is still locked. I am minutes away from calling the Hyundai tow number.

Well, I have an update. They towed my car to the dealer and when the mechanic removed the bottom panel on the lift, we discovered scat and chewed wire everywhere. Wires that control the steering column, the headlights and fog lights teeth-lashed. The scat appears of rabbit extraction. What an *effing path of destruction these critters left and in his opinion just from one night. The repair is expensive and not under the purview of the warranty.

Call your auto insurance company.

I did. They’ve already paid out $5,800! Another foreign auto shop said it should cost $1,000 or less!
