  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking to purchase a 2010 V8 - looking for advice

The 4.6 engine got more power in 2012 with the refresh, but I've owned both '09 and '12 and the difference between the two engines is minimal; not enough to tell via butt dyno, IMO.
I did quick search on Internet and I found that:

2009 4.6 engine has 375 horses when using premium, and 368 with regular gas

My 2011 4.6 has 385 horses when using premium, and 378 with regular gas

So, 2011 4.6 engine got boost of 10 horses compare to 2009. And I think it changed in 2010.

HOWEVER, the variable octane tune (mostly timing) was introduced in 2012 IIRC, and one can easily tell the difference between 87 and 93 in the same car. 5-10% better fuel economy and noticeably more low-end torque with 93, which is where it matters most. So a '12 with 93 is noticeably more punchy than a '09 or '12 with 87. I normally just run 87 since I have another playtoy for hooning.
I am not sure about variable timing in my 2011 4.6, but I 1000% agree with you on the difference between 87 and 93. So, I drive on 93 and summer tires in summer and it is a lot of fun, and on 87 and winter tires in winter which is normal driving without any fun.

Do you notice a pronounced difference in acceleration between the two gasolines ?
