  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Im new here and I noticed today the only light that works on my passenger rear tail light is the blinker. The brake light is out while the parking light is on and of course while the brake is pressed. Completely out..only thing that comes on is turn signal/hazard. I've seen on here to check the harness to it? Im not sure if anyone knows exactly whats wrong given how it is before I go buying a tail light..

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Sometimes water can get into the socket and cause corrosion. You should be able to access the harness if you peel back the carpet in the trunk (I've never done it on this car, but that's how you get to it in most cars). If the socket is corroded, it may work if you clean off the corrosion.

Are both inner (trunk lid) and outer (fender) brake lights not functioning? If so, most likely you don't have a light issue but a wiring problem. If only one is out, then it may be a bad light but also may be a bad connection at the light or upstream.

I'd start by pulling trunk panels (there may be a small one behind the outer taillight) and checking with a voltmeter before suspecting the lights. Pin 5 is hot and pin 2 is ground for the brake light on all four taillight light connectors.

One wire (from under the dash) feeds all five brake lights. It is split at a connector behind the rear seat and one below the left brake light. A wire then runs across the back of the trunk to the individual right side lights.

If both right lights are out, I'd check for voltage on pin 20 of connector FF01 (obviously while depressing the brake pedal).

You can find the service manuals along with schematics with a Google search.

Toughest part of this is getting the panels off. If I remember right, you'll end up pulling the deck lid panel to get the side panels out. No fun.
