  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm highly pissed off.... Recently purchased a G80 sport with approx. 18,500odo. After 6 weeks or so, have about 20k mi. currently only used as a commuter. Leaving work a fire it up, check engine light pops up and a Bluelink prompt stating "A condition occurred with your vehicle, schedule service today."

Call Bluelink and of course no one knows a damn thing. Called the dealership and couldn't get it in for service for a few days out.(Of course, not immediately).

I guess my question/s are, has anyone else experienced a engine light at low mileage? What could it be(anything presumably I know)?

An additional point to my pissed offness. How non-phased anybody was, Bluelink service, dealership service, no one gave two shits. A Premium brand should have premium bend-over-backwards service, in my opinion.

You are correct, many things can cause an alert. Bluelink is just a connected service company and would have no idea of what is actually wrong. They work with computers, not cars.

Most dealers of any brand try to keep the service department busy and a few days is common. Most good independents shops try to do the same.

Meantime, is the car driving OK? Could be something as simple as a loose gas cap. Without a code reader, none of us can be of much help either. Technology is good but it can also drive you nuts.

Yeah, it seems to be driving normally. I took it out for about an hour of highway driving to test the throttle response, no back firing. I tightened the gas cap first, (thinking it was something simple), no light reset. I placed cardboard under the vehicle to see if there are any leaks, none so far.

Like I said, this shit is weird, I hate cars with problems(like everyone, I guess). Just 20k mi. there is no rational reason for an engine lamp outside of shotty engineering.

I came out of a 2010 Buick with 145kmi. My first engine service light was at around 110k. I thought this Korean bullshit was reliable.

I digress... Thank you for your response.

Out experiences are exactly opposite. I bought Korean because of the BS with my last Buick. I'd list all the problems but it would take a couple of hours. I'm on my fifth Hyundai/Genesis and only a couple of minor problems.

Let us know the resolution of yours.

Oh, believe me, I get it. My Buick Lacrosse no gem either.

As far as an update, will do... I have an appointment Wednesday(12/23).

I had a check engine light pop up with 8500 miles. Dealer said the gas cap was bad and replaced. 12,800 now and all is fine so far.

I hope it's that simple.

I hope it's that simple.
I had eng light at 39k.. not exactly low miles in contrast to yours. However it was a simple purge valve. I feel your pain, I have an 04 impala and the first eng light came at125k. Its just one of those things.. I hope they make things right for you.👍

Update: The light was off this morning, just as mysterious as it appeared. A damn phantom light or something weird. Called Genesis service and was told if it's off then they wouldn't be able to help in that regard. As the vehicle goes through its test every so many ignition cycles, there may have been a failure of some kind, i.e. various sensors, valves, etc..

However, it's something to watch for, if it becomes chronic. Idk... I'm not as anxious as I was yesterday about it, we'll so though. I plan on engaging with everyone because I adore the G80 sport and look to improve upon it through modest upgrades... wheels/tires, tint, intake and exhaust.

Thanks.

Curious. Did you happen to fill up with gas just before the light went on? If you overfill it can set it off. Had that happen with other cars. Fill tank. Go home. Next morning drive about two miles and get error.

Nope. It was sitting at about ⅝ tank.

I had the same thing happen yesterday- "Take your car in for service". No check engine light. Car is a 2019 G80 Ultimate 5.0 with 2950mi on it. Hasn't happened again. I've tried to find a scanner/analyzer for it but no luck. Companies say the car is too new and the ones they have will only reset the check engine light.

Was it the preset reminder for service? Some dealers set it for about 3000 miles. You can change the interval.

Ok, thanks. I just got out of a shit-kicker to not having to worry about engine lights for at least the next 5-7 years with good behavior. So much for expecting, huh. Shit is ridiculous.

Yes it was. Should I make an appointment to take it in? Car runs perfect.

Depends. According to the manual there is normal service and severe service. If you fall into the severe, it is near time for oil change, inspect tires, brakes, etc. If you fall into normal then you go to 7500 miles.
From page 7-10 of the manual
SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SERVICES
7-10
Maintenance
Follow Normal Maintenance Schedule if the vehicle is usually operated where none of the following conditions apply.
If any of the following conditions apply, you must follow the Maintenance Under Severe Usage Conditions.
• Repeated short distance driving.
• Driving in dusty conditions or sandy areas.
• Extensive use of brakes.
• Driving in areas where salt or other corrosive materials are used.
• Driving on rough or muddy roads.
• Driving in mountainous areas.
• Extended periods of idling or low speed operation.
• Driving for a prolonged period in cold temperatures and/or extremely humid climates.
• More than 50% driving in heavy city traffic during hot weather above 90°F (32°C).

It is in the menus for the dash messages. If the car came with a manual look there for your answer, as EdP suggests. It is a reminder only. No problem. Adjust the reminder to the mileage you prefer.
Your vehicle has so many more functions than your shit kicker you will likely spend an hour or two in the driveway fiddling with the owner manual and your buttons. It will be time well spent.

Yep, not used to all the gadgets. Been spending time going through the manual with a hi-lighter and Post Its. Driving is usually freeway and short trips. I'll call Genesis after Christmas. My other car is an heavily modified 87 Turbo Coupe and an 05 F350. Neither in the luxury realm. Thank you for the help and have a Merry Christmas.
