  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

LED Lit Genesis Motors "G90 Winged" Badges/Emblems Now Available in America!

I purchased this newer shiny 2-way led for my trunk and had my mechanic remove the older, dull and less shiny genesis led (came w/ car when i bought it). I did this today. Turns out, we could not get it to light up. We tried using it 1-way just connected to the same wires the old led was connected to. Nothing, no light/power.

It came with the led light as in the pics from the seller, along with a cable that has some circuit attached. My instructions are 100% in Korean/Hangul. I managed to find a pic of someone who bought the 2-pack (hood and trunk) emblems and their instructions had SOME english.. enough to see which wires are supposed to be connected to where.

The 2-pack pic is not mine, that is the pic I found.. its just to late at night for me to go out and try, I'll try to connect the wires myself in the morning and report back. The pic w/ gray background is what I got when I ordered the single 2-way led.

I contacted seller for more details. I wanted to know if anyone else installed this, as most people in these forums are just talking about it, some have it and haven't installed. I can't find anyone in the Gen2 forum thats talking about it. If anyone knows more about how to get this led connected, please share.

I must say though: The emblem does look really nice on my Genesis Sedan 2015. I changed the front emblem (non-led) to the newer which matches the trunk now and the car almost looks like a newer Genesis!Genesis LED Trunk Emblem Instructions.jpggenlwdnew.jpg

Just maybe, you need to turn on the headlights for the leds to light up. Depends where the installer selected the power source for the leds.

Okay folks, reporting back

Don, turns out the installer didn't go a step further like I did!! ;)

I decided to mess around with the light after the seller sent me a revised English version of my instructions. What i found is that the wires my mechanic used were 'clamps' already in place from the previous/older trunk emblem. I took a look at the wires those were connected to, they were connected to the passenger side license plate light. Both of those wires are Brown in color. Something told me to reverse the connections because how can one tell which is ground and which is signal.

Before: wiring w/ old clamps (wire colors coming from those clamps are reversed)

After: I ran new wires in reverse

BAMM!!! lights work and look great! White LED Light

I then connected the wiring with the little circuit chip on it. Everything still worked when car lights were set to Parking light mode (front leds) or ON.

Now for it to turn Red when braking:

I disconnected the passenger side trunk light connector. For me, it had 5 wires going into the harness.

I found that the Blue wire w/ Brown stripe was the one when you hit the brakes.

The Brown wire w/ Black stripe is the one when brake lights are just on, but not braking.

I used the yellow (wire w/ chip on it) to connect the braking light.

I hope this helps anyone else wanting to install. It really looks good!

Sal,
Can you provide some pics for these emblems? I'm willing to purchase, just need to know how easy or hard they are to install.

Sal, just above is a message dated 8/18/2020 that shows the badges, diagram and a few words of explanation that should be helpful.
If you decide to add the badges you will be required to provide a hole in he hood under the badge to allow the wires to pass through. Same for the trunk lid. The holes stopped me from adding the badges to my G80. If I change my mind, I'll have auto body shop do the install; at least the hole punching.

@spimusic - did you install these on a G90 and if so did you have to drill any holes?

thanks!!

I like the look, but hate the idea of drilling a hole in the car, just invites rust.

Hint, if you are going to remove the original badge, Dental Floss is a good thing to try and it won't scratch the paint. And, use a Hair Drier to soften the adhesive.

there are alignment posts behind the emblems. the wires just go through those.

Has anyone figured out which wire to tap from the headlights to power the hood led emblem? 2017 G80

In case others are searching and find this thread, I tapped into the wire going into the headlamp assembly that powers the side parking lights (3 yellow lights on side for me). It was the orange one

There are no clear instructions of installing these. I guess drilling a hole is must.

Wow, I would love to get these for my G90. The seller would probably sell a ton more if they made a good installation video (hint)

FYI...this may help some of u guys:
