If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why are these so rare? The only 5.0 R-Spec I've seen "in the wild" is the one that I am driving!

I have seen more Chevy SS's on the road then Genesis R-Spec Sedans. Did they just not sell as many of them because of the market?

The Genesis is not a high volume car. If you live where there is snow in the winter, they probably sold even fewer of the R-Spec sedans.

Agreed.
Here in central WI my R-spec seems to be a rare beast.

The SS isn't a high volume car either, they haven't broken 3,000 sold in a single year yet. 7,151 sold between October 2013 to May 2016.

Only one I've ever seen is mine. EQUUS is more common but there's a Tesla at every intersection & 3 in every parking lot

Since it looks to me like some R-Spec owners swapped the OEM wheels for custom ones, I would think that makes it a lot harder to ID an R-Spec unless one is driving right behind them and can see the R-Spec badge on the trunk.

Even that doesn't guarantee it's the Rspec. Some people de-badged their cars (including myself) some of them could slap on Rspec badges on non-Rspec cars.

You will never know till you pop the hood. :)

In addition, a lot the OEM R-Spec wheels replaced by R-Spec owners with customs wheels, were probably purchased by owners on non-Spec Genesis (but many of them may been V-8's).

Ironically, the day after I started this thread, I saw another white 5.0 R-Spec on the way to work that morning. That is the only other one I've seen on the road.

I live in the SE near Atlanta, so snow/ice isn't (usually) a problem here (2011 and 2014 being notable exceptions). I do see a lot of Geneses (plural?) around here, but most of them are 3.8s and 4.6s. The new 2015+ Genesis is also rare here, albeit still more common than the 5.0 R-Spec is.

ha. I got my 2016 Genesis (Base RWD) two weeks ago. I have not seen one G2 on the street since then. Saw 2 Gen 1's and one Equus. And I'm looking for them.

So yes, probably a very low volume car.

I started my initial search for an 2013-2014 Rspec in Nov 15. I finally purchased one in March 16. Now mind you I worked a lot out of town quite a bit but I was always searching. I was on a weekend get away from home and found one online...called dealer to check it out and he said let me make sure it is still available...a guy was driving over 400miles to look at it. He bought it on the spot. The Rspec's a very hard to find.

No joke! I flew 1700+ miles to pick up my R-Spec after purchasing it sight unseen. It was the only one in the country that was CPO/year/color/R-Spec. I took some of the $8k I negotiated and had a bad ass road trip home!

I just bought my 2012 R-Spec in May of 2016. It only has 28k. To be honest, I never heard of the R-Spec until I found mine. I like the fact that the R-Spec is a low production car. A lot of people ask me what it is & they are surprised when I tell them it's a Hyundai.

Yes I have agree they really are rare! I have a 2014. I'm in SC I've maybe two rspecs. I love haven't a fast beautiful car thats rare. We are special people!!

I enjoyed my white 2012 R-Spec for three years, but decided to go AWD with my 2015 5.0 - it was a great car (but all 4 of my Genesis sedans have been awesome). Enjoy!!

I live in the Los Angeles area myself. You see every car imaginable here. Like others I see tons of V6 and 4.6 models but R-spec is few and far between. Low production model, low sales etc. I can count on 1 hand how many I've seen around. I ended us sourcing my car from out of state to get what I wanted. Even in LA it's hard to find anything with a 5.0 unless it's a 2015 and up.
I love my car and I'm happy to have it and can stand out. I get nothing but love with it from people who know about them.

I live in Canada and bought the car back in 2012 and have NEVER seen another one on the road. Never.

My opinion is that many Genesis buyers want the V6 models due to it being a better value overall in-terms of fuel economy and affordable luxury. The V8 models especially the R-spec is nice on paper, but many people do not actually want or need the extra power and handling. Therefore, not many R-spec were made or purchased in relation to the other Genesis models. R-specs are very rare and will be collector car I bet in the future in the Asian car category.

The same could be said of the 2015 Genesis Ultimate models, most used 2015 V8 models available in my area are the non-Ultimate models which does not have the active suspension and HUD. The rest are usually 3.8 models. However, you cannot tell the different in V8 models on the road unless you sit in one due to both V8 model having the same wheels and 5.0 badges. The only other way to tell without sitting in a 2015 model is to look thru the window at the info screen size(ultimate has a bigger screen) and check to see if one has the rotary info control knob which would make it a Ultimate model.

I have seen only one R-spec in my area on the road based on the wheels and badge. Those car are very rare.

Even if you look at auto trader they are not common at all. I'm hoping to drive mine until it dies. I've got 97 thousand km's on it and it drives like a dream still. I'm just wondering how much more mileage I can put on it before it gives up. The only issue I ever had was jerking shifting that seem to have gone away.

Yes, several R-spec or even 2015 5.0 ultimate model can be found on autotrader in a wide search area or even a nationwide search, but not many in a local area such as in the Atlanta metro areas.

The cars in question are not impossible to find, just not as common as the other Genesis models. I could find only one R-spec in a 50 miles radius in my area out of 10 total V8 Genesis models(including 2015 Genesis 5.0 models) available on Autotrader. Most of the 2015 5.0 model listed in the search were not Ultimate models.
