  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2011 Genesis sedan. Runs great though a week back most of my dash lights came on particularly brake systems lights and they won't go off. Parked while running then all of a sudden it stopped. Waited a few seconds it started again and drove home. Dash lights would come on again when driving. Took it to the dealer and had full electrical diagnostic check $300 +. Told it was some "can system" needs to be replace at the cost of 6k. Read some threads about resetting the negative battery cable and trying that. Has anyone had this issue? Thank you for your insight.

Did they say what all they would do for the $6K?

My guess is they want to replace the body control module. The "CAN" is Controller Area Network, the Genesis has a C_CAN Chassis Controller Area Network and a B_CAN Body Controller Area Network. I think the chassis CAN does the diagnostics that is causing the dash lights. Don't let the dealer scare you with the $6,000, the new OEM modules from the dealer are crazy priced. If it is bad, you can obtain a used module for $40-100 on eBay. I found a new one for $70 this morning.

Unfortunately, to read or program the body control module, one would need the Hyundai GDS diagnostic system.

Instead of a dealer, I would use a local mechanic for this repair if you are not able to do it yourself, it requires getting into the dash (crash pad area) to replace.

Are there diagnostic trouble codes to help us out? Local auto parts stores will scan your car for codes for free, and it may help determine if the module is bad. Or maybe the dealer has more information on the diagnostics, for $300 you should have been given a pretty detailed isolation of the problem.

As long as you have the correct part number, a replacement module should be programmed correctly so all you need to do is switch them out. But a dealer shouldn't charge $6K for that, so if you have more info on what the dealer said they need to do, that would help.

It could be as simple as the rear wheel speed sensors having an issue.

Thanks. It's been a while since, I responded. Thanks for the insight. I was still trying to find a solution. Finally took it to a reputable mechanic. The problem is the right rear speed sensor. Why didn't the dealer tell me that in the first place?! Cost is about 200.00, find out that this is common among this model and the parts are in delayed...will update when it's fixed......
