If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey all!!

Im flying in to Buford Georgia this weekend to buy a 2018 3.3T G80 - Driving it back to Dallas, roughly 900 miles.

Anyways, Anything you guys wish you knew before you bought it or that you learned after you bought it that may be helpful?

I appreciate the help! I just learned about bluelink today - so that's exciting. I am looking at the pricing for that.

Thanks all!

I look forward to joining the cool kids club here!

I can post more pictures if anybody is interested but at this point im sure you guys have seen everything - Only difference is the tail lights are tinted and the back passenger side windows, but not the port windows, are tinted.

Memory functions are not linked to the FOBs so you have to hit memory 1 or 2 when you get in the car if your settings have been changed.

the car does recall the last settings used when it was powered off, so if you are drive 1 then it will always return to driver 1 when you start, but if driver 2 comes along and then you, you have to hit memory 1 to get your settings returned.

the tire PSI recommendations in the door jam are too low for this heavy of a vehicle, 36-38psi is best, otherwise the tires will blister or the sidewalls will shred.

The dealership network is non-existent and it seems the shared Hyundai/Genesis dealerships are clueless about offering a luxury experienced for $60K+ Genesis vehicles.

I have loved my G80 sport, but my lease is up this month and I am returning it. It has been a fantastic vehicle. other than a minor issue with my pano roof twice, which was warranty replaced, the vehicle has been a joy to own and drive. I will miss it, but I need to step up to an SUV for a variety of reasons and since there are no authorized Genesis dealerships within reasonable distance of my home or office I am going to Hyundai, as to stick with the dealership I have been using to service the G80 they have been fantastic.

have to agree with the above comments. The car is great but the dealership experience is awful.

where is the 3.3T badge? better check under the hood

I just turned in my 2018 G80 3.8 Premium in December. Didn't have any warranty problems, but I did have two annoying problems inherent to the car:

1. The infotainment was slow to respond to voice commands and often didn't understand. My home is voice-controlled so I know how well it can work and how frustrating it is when it doesn't.

2. When cruise control is on (I use it a lot, even in town so I don't end up speeding) it is sometimes too aggressive in braking for a car slowing in front (like when they're making a turn) and especially when traffic crosses at a right angle such as an intersection. Most drivers realize the car will be clear long before you reach the intersection, but the Genesis would brake fairly abruptly; worse yet, it was very slow to accelerate back to the set speed. I found this dangerous if someone was driving close behind as they would not expect me to brake in that situation. Whenever it happened, I needed to step on the gas to get back up to speed more quickly.

In my 2021 G80, here is how 1 and 2 work:

1. Infotainment system is beautiful and fast. Voice-response is still stupid, though. Lazy programming - you need to know exact commands to get anything done. Today I was navigating to a destination and when I got close I wanted to turn off the route. I said "Cancel Navigation" and get "Sorry, I don't understand, please try again after the beep". So next I say "Cancel Route" and get same stupid response, even though Cancel Route is supposed to be a valid command. So then "Cancel Guidance" and again, doesn't understand. Finally, "Cancel Route Guidance" and it works. All of these are logical and predictable commands the programmers should add as triggers. I have plenty of other examples.

2. SCC as Cruise Control is called now is much better. It understands cross traffic and has not erroneously applied the brakes yet. Plus, you can set how quickly you want SCC to accelerate after applying brakes. I'm very pleased at the improvements.

Even with the complaints on my 2018 G80, I would still have bought it as it was an incredible bargain for a luxury vehicle. Now, Genesis vehicles do not have the same price advantage is they increased pricing considerably in 2021. I would be less forgiving with the car prices as it is now.

Good luck your new ride. My 2018 was white.

Great looking car right there. Nice choice! I usually don't like white vehicles but that's a handsome car.

Enjoy the new ride and welcome!

To piggyback off that - one of the features that the salesman was explaining was the .. for lack of the actual term, oh **** braking system that will stop your car 1, 2, or 3 car lengths if another car stops - Taking into account what you were saying in regards to the sensor system of the cruise control, do you or did you find the auto braking in relation to the vehicle distancing system to work correctly or were you having to manually over-ride that as well?

He shared this video - Which looks really dang cool

Genesis Driverless braking

I really appreciate all the feedback - None of this sound like inherent deal breakers or things that would make me really think twice about the car.

All the badging is taken off, save for the one from the dealership - I had pictures but they took the car off the site because I put a deposit down.

I've never been in a situation where I needed the forward collision avoidance to take control. The link for your video didn't work. I can tell you that the auto-braking worked great with the cruise control on. I used that quite a bit in heavy traffic. The car would slow nicely when traffic in front of you slowed and speed back up to your preset limit. It would also brake to a complete stop if needed and when you step on the gas pedal it reactivates the cruise control.

Link is fixed.

That's a really cool feature!!!

This upgrade is like going from the caveman to nasa astronaut in a day ... The car im switching from is a base model 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid. I was happy it had an AUX connection :).

It currently still runs, 196k miles. Captain america shield dent in the hood from where a jeeps rim flew off and hit my hood and then windshield, cant adjust the flow of air at all or turn it off ... so you have to turn the heat down to a lower temperature and leave it on auto for the air flow to decrease .... it was time :)

Any feedback on bluelink? For $100 a year it doesnt sound bad.

Congratulations on your pending purchase. I've got a 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T HTRAC/AWD with 37k miles. I love this car but ...

1) Check to see if the Turbo Oil line recall is applicable and fixed. There is a thread on this HERE.

2) Look at the exterior window trim for pitting/spotting. The 2018 G80 Sport specifically is known to have this issue. Work in replacement as part of the purchase deal. There is a thread on this HERE.

3) If the vehicle has the factory/OEM Continental Extreme TX tires check them carefully for sidewall bubbles (inside and outside). I've experienced this and there are numerous reports in this issue in this forum . Work in a new set of tires as part of the purchase deal. There is a thread on this HERE.

I've run Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ and Continental ExtremeContact DWS0 6 on mine and happy with them. Be aware the car has a non-squared setup (front tire size different than rear tires). You can't rotate front to back and will likely experience shorter tire lifespan (rears particularly). I'm not an extremely aggressive driver and on my 3rd set of tires at 37kMiles. I did replace 1st set/OEMs at 15K due to a tire bubble on right front.

4) Verify you can change XMSirius\Satellite channels after 15 minutes. This is been a common/recent issue.
There is a thread on this HERE.

5) Take car for a lengthy 30 minute drive at different speeds/road conditions. Some user are reporting a minor vibration and deem it unacceptable in this class of car. Balancing, alignment and new tires does not typically fix. Some people have reported drive shaft replacement resolved the vibration issue. There is a thread on this HERE.

6) Check for lateral (door-to-door) wobble/pop in driver seat. There is a TSB on this and occurred for me while taking a sweeping turn at speed. I had it fixed twice. First fix was replacing the same defective part. It occurred again and the new/different fix (shims added versus replacing part) has resolved the issue so far. There is a thread on this HERE.

Enjoy your lengthy inaugural 900 mile drive in your new ride!

This is great information - I will look at all this. All the pictures are taken down now so I dont have a good way to look at anything other than the few that I posted to this forum. I don't know if they'll let me take it for a 30 minute test drive, though I suppose if I'm buying the vehicle they would.

Great looking car.

I'll repeat what others have said about the dealer experience. I was treated better at the Honda dealer. It seems to have become worse over time.

Fortunately, there are some good dealers out there. Other brands have some poor dealers too. There are a few that I'd never enter again. One of the worst industries ever.

Is it at 33 psi in the morning then goes up to 35-36 ? Or its 35 psi in the morning then jumps up to 38 psi as you drive ? I agree 33 does seem low, 35 is perfect.

Theres something about these 3.3 T models and g90s specifically in white , just makes the car look elegant. I seen a 2021 in white it was just gorgeous.. The tinted tailights compliments this car well.
Well knowing part... i think certain tire brands makes a lot of difference for these cars ride ,Michelin or continental , maybe pirelli also. (Michelin would be best)
Dealer network sucks, can’t believe theres isnt much Genesis dealerships. A fair amount arent good , gotta really do the research either find a legitimate indie shop or decent dealership. Some hyundai dealers are so familiar with genesis too well, oddly enough.
would have been nice to get the 3.3 T power is amazing. However the 3.8 L is solid.
tech package is actually worth it as compared to the premium, real wood , better seats, LED turn signals for the front headlights.
our cars are a bargain, im sure we all love it overall. My other choice would have been a 2019 toyota avalon, if i had more coins.

I put 36psi front and 38psi rear (as I carry stuff in the trunk) when the tires are cold, i.e. sitting in ambient temps for 6-8 hours.

As I drive the psi rises to 38-40psi. And I get an average 22mpg as a result. When it is at 33psi cold I see the mpg drop to 18-19.

I never had any issues with the OEM Continental tires running this pressure. And I got 24,000 miles out of them before the rears were at 2/32. The fronts were still at 4/32 but I swapped them all at the same time due having to turn in the car at the end of the lease next week. Leasing companies always ding you for tires and charge your twice the cost if you don’t do it yourself.

i put 33 cold in mine and while driving they register at 38. Ride is great.

All 4 ? A 5 psi increase ? Must be extremely hot over there

I had the same car, year, model...and even color. Good choice! Loved that car. If I had to criticize anything, it was the command system. It just doesn't recognize commands, addresses or anything well for that matter...and there's a delay on the processing of some navigation commands. There is an issue with the trim that develops darker/lighter spots (around the window that looks like chrome). Little harsh on the gas mileage but to be expected with the weight and engine. Didn't bother me much because I don't drive a lot of miles. Overall, I found the vehicle to be great and didn't have any mechanical problems.

Anything over 19 mpg for the 3.5 T is solid in my opinion.
