If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Home screen freezes up

I have 3 hypothesis on the XMSirius issues. 1 or more these is the cause/contributing factor for the issues users are reporting.

1) Antenna including cable to tuner/head unit has failed or is going bad.

2) The latest 14.10 map update is more sensitive less forgiving of a bad signal (high Signal-to-Noise-Ratio-SNR). This would be exacerbated by item 1) above.

3) XMSirius made a change (e.g. radio signal protocol change) within the past month that our satellite radio tuners don't like. This is least likely cause IMO. Users here and other manufactures have been reporint this issue for many years.

It would be helpful for those having this XMSirius issue to provide the following information for their vehicle.
My info is ...

Vehicle

My deletion of XMSirius presets was a temporary fix. I only have 6 presets defined today and the issue has resumed.

I also went to XMSirius website and sent a Activation/signal refresh. This did not resolve the issue.

I am going to try and download the current 14.10 update and install on a previous/older Mapnsoft SD provide card to see if this resolves the issue. I need find a SD card reader for my 'puter. Those are becoming as rare as Beta-Max VCRs.

Mapnsoft indicates new releases are done in March and September. I sure hope they get a fix soon. I paid for 1 year of XM service and it's effectively unusable in my car right now.

oh, forgot to post this fact; I had a 21 G70 loaner for 3 days, no issues. I now have a 20 G70; no issues. any thoughts???
it seems that this is happening to G80. My husband has g70 with XM radio and no issues what so ever.

The same thing has been happening since last Friday night on our '19 G80 Sport 3.3t. I should have looked here first before trying to get the local dealer to fix it.

Took the car in on Monday morning, got a '21 G70 loaner after waiting aroung for an hour or so. They kept the G80 overnight and called me Tuesday afternoon saying that it was "fixed". I went by and played with the radio system for about 10 minutes...everything seemed to be working normally, so I gave up the loaner and left.

Last night, I was out driving around and it happened again. I recorded a video and sent it to the service manager this morning. They quickly brought me the G70 again and took the G80 back, but a few hours later, they called me and told me that "this is a well known problem and there is no current fix. We are bringing your car back to you and will let you know when a fix for the problem is available."

So now I have our G80 back and will make sure to have something available in the car to reset the system.

This was the first time I had driven a G70...nice enough little car for a base model with a 2 liter, but I really prefer the G80 Sport 3.3t!

I have a 2017 G80 Ultimate 5.0 , and started to have problems with XM radio (freeze) that escalated to even Navigation system freeze. I have tried reset, only helped for 15 min then got the freeze. I actually went ahead and downloaded the latest Software and Maps (2020 Nov) and installed that with SD card. While many things changed (mostly good and only few annoying bad changes) that did not help either. I resent the signal using Sirius XM website to my car... no change.

I spoke with my service adviser (San Jose) and she was very helpful and courteous to explain that there are MANY other people with this issue. It seemed to start in NY state and now all over the US MANY car owners suffer from the same (mostly Genesis). They are consulting with Sirius XM, Hyundai and Genesis to resolve the issue. Changing the "head unit" will not help, this is software issue not hardware I am being told. I was told they let me know when they know more and how to fix it.

I wonder if we should start putting masks on our G80s to prevent the transmission of this XMSirius virus to other G80s ;).

I really hope it's a software issue. The thought of taking my car to dealer to replace head unit and/or antenna+cable makes me uncomfortable. Typically interior interior disassembly cause damages, bad re-fitting and new squeaks/noises.

Please do keep us apprised of any updates.

The dealer here in minneapolis (after a head unit replace) contacted Genesis and was told they are working on a fix, and made me take back my car. They had no idea when the fix would take place, but the GM did give me the number for Genesis consumer affairs. The person at Genesis said they hope to have a fix in the next few days. I guess we will know in a few days.
by the way that number for anyone is 844 340 9741

Thanks for the phone number...it is in my contacts file now.
This is a really big distraction from all of the good features that these cars have.

My screen froze at the end of a phone call. I think I heard a crackle/pop at the same time it froze. That happened on February 5, 2021 at the start of a 3 day 2,000 mile drive. Very disappointing to be stuck with 1 satellite radio station, navigation stopping after a few miles, and other issues such as the heads-up display stuck on 118 miles until next turn. FM/AM still worked, as did my jukebox music, and Android Auto was able to navigate and play music for me.
I will take my vehicle to the dealer to make a record of this problem under warranty. Seems to me that items associated with my 2019 G80 Sport's own satellite reception (i.e., navigation, Sirius, phone) freeze or cause the freeze.

I too started to experience the problem a couple weeks ago with my 2018 G80 5.0. In addition to the freezes, I had noticed that I would loose sound at locations where there was nothing to block the Sirius/XM signal. I noticed that when the sound came back, something would flash on the top of the screen saying "Featured Favorites Updated" after that I can't change the S/XM station. I can navigate to other stations, but it just says "acquiring signal" and the station never changes.

I don't think it's hardware, I think its a conflict between something SiriusXM has uploaded and the unit software.

I have the latest update, but I haven't loaded it, I'm still on the previous version.

I have a 2018 G80 Sport and use XMSirius regularly. I have and NO problems for two and a half years. Starting this January, I am now frequently having the Freeze problem many of you are describing. When this occurs, XMSirius gets locked onto the current stations. Switching to another channel has no affect. The radio stays locked onto the original station. I am able to sequence to other stations via controls on the steering wheel, center console controller knob or radio tune knob with the same results. I do get a blue error message saying unable to acquire signal. I am also unable to switch to Maps or AM/FM during this time.

I have never updated the software. I am not sure if I want to go down that path until more is known on this problem. I am afraid of going down a uncertain rabbit hole.

This does not seem to be a hardware problem to me. It seems to occur when I temporarily loose the XM signal. So far, the only way I have been unable to resolve the problem is to shut the car off and then restart it.

Some of you have gone to the dealership, has anyone heard anything from Genesis technicians?

HI all -

2015 3.8 AWD Hyundai Genesis (pre-Genesis spinoff) here.

I started having this problem 2 weeks ago. same as everyone else. will lock onto a station and then it freezes and can't change the XM station with "weak connection" displayed in nav screen. I can change teh station with the steering wheel controls or the DIS knob, the audio still comes from the station that was last listened to.

The physical nav button, xm radio button did not work, only media sometimes and am/fm worked.

I had my head unit replaced today with a refurbished unit under warranty. Worked fine for about 10 minutes and as soon as I acdtivated by XM Radio signal and loaded my presets, the problem started back up.

Next step will be to run diag on the H/U and the antenna. This can't be a widespread hard ware issue with all of our radios failing at the same time. Very unlikely --- but i guess one never knows.

Will keep posted --- going to contact Hyundai executive relations as this is a product liability action in the making.

is anyone WITHOUT THE 9.2 INCH SCREEN W/ DIS KNOB having this issue???? Is that the common factor? DIS knob?

I immediately I started seeing the XMSirius issue after the 14.10 upgrade about 1 month ago. I contacted MapnSoft by e-mail and they initially "blew me off" saying "take to dealer". They subsequently contacted me about the issue. This appears to be a common/widespread problem. Based on my e-mails with Mapnsoft this is specific to Genesis/G80/G90's with 9.2-inch HD navigation system+DIS Multimedia Controller (console jog dial). Their latest response last week was ...

We currently have Sirius, the Radio Manufacturer (LG), and the Vehicle Manufacturer as well as ourselves looking into a a solution for this issue. I do not have any more information at this time other than it seems to be effecting quite a few of the g80 jogdial systems, and we hope to have a fix available soon.

They did ask me if I had a SiriusXM Travel Link subscription. I did as it was complimentary for 3 years at purchase. I infer it's this causing the issue. Serendipitously, my SiriusXM Travel Link subscription expires Feb 19, 2021. I have no plans to renew this, but will keep paying for SiruisXM Radio. I tried canceling XMSirius Travel subscription last week, but Sirius said they could not do it. I'll keep this thread apprised of status once my SiriusXM Travel subscription expires.

I expect a software update is forthcoming that will resolve this issue. Questions is...How long will that take.

My vehicle details are ...

Thanks Bubba
i did just get off of the phone with Genesis, and they also said that xm has a problem with the travel link causing the issue. she also said that xm was going to disable travel link soon until a permanent fix was available. No exact timetable on when this would happen, as genesis is having server issues today.
she also said we should get an e-mail from xm about the issue. Somehow i doubt that, but ???

Had my G80 out for about an hour last night and did not loose sound or have SirusXM channels freeze up. I’m thinking they made a change because for the past couple of weeks the problem would occur within 5-10 minutes if not sooner.

I never installed 14.1 so while it may have exasperated the problem, I don’t believe it was the cause.

Had my head unit replaced in Friday the 12th. Still experiencing the issue today. Have written to hyundai executive relations. Awaiting a response to replace the head unit and antenna hardware with brand new parts. They used a refurbished head unit for the recent replacement.
I also have XM traffic and travel link.

I've been experiencing the same issues on my '19 G80 3.3T for the last couple weeks.
Was the 14.1 upgrade a manual thing or automatic? If it was manual, I never did one so I would say the issue isn't the that.

I haven't done the update either --- and I'm still affected. It's NOT the update. It's some sort of hardware compatibility issue between the XM signal being broadcast and the antenna hardware that's being used or the headunit hardware in the 9.2 inch systems with the DIS controller.

I had the problem since mid-January, but I went for a drive today, and SiriusXm worked fine. No problems at all. Last week the screen would lock up after 5-10 minutes, just like everyone else. I haven't had an update done since early last year, so I bet the problem was caused by some SiriusXm update that was incompatible with the Genesis radio.

Just drive around in my genesis for 30 minutes. All is good now. XM traffic and other data services for travel link also work fine.
It was definitely an XM signal issue incompatible with our hardware.
