If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi guys &gals I have 2015 genesis and the rubber cover on the manual trunk release button has rotted the dealer wants $120 to replace what’s the procedure to replace myself a scale of 1-5 being hardest many thanks

If you're still within warranty call around if you have other Hyundai dealers nearby. Mine was replaced under warranty but I had a good dealer to work with.

Same, they replaced mine last week. Definitely go to another dealer if you're covered by warranty.

Confirmed again, dealer replaced for me under warranty too. Obviously a deficient material selection for this piece.

Mine was covered under warranty in July.

I’ll chime in with another one covered under warranty.

I can confirm the replacement will rot too. 😞

I got my 2015 Genesis sedan in early 2015. By 2018 it had rotted and replaced under warranty. Now almost half way through 2020, I can feel the spots forming and I'm sure by 2021 it will be just as bad as the original one. So they appear to last about 3 years.

After reading these posts about the manual release for the trunk located in the trunk lid I checked our 2015 Genesis 3.8 and sure enough it was rotted away. The warranty was expired so I ordered one from Ebay for about $40 with free shipping. On arrival I found the unit is press fitted into the opening of the trunk lid. It has tension springs around the edges that hold it in place. There is a switch for the trunk release with one connector and the backup camera is mounted with 4 small screws. Its a simple changeout once you see the new unit and dislodge the old one. You do need to be careful due to the camera changeout. Its a easy way to save yourself some bucks if your Genesis is out of warranty. I should have taken some pictures of the new one and the install but did not.

Got it changed under the warranty. Pretty much nothing rubber based lasts long time on this car. From weatherstripping, to brake light indicator rubber on roof side, to this truck lid cover. Only hope is monthly conditioning after replacement with something like 303. Really disappointing as I have had other Hyundais before this and never had to think about weatherstripping or other rubber parts on monthly basis. I can't imagine having this car out in Arizona heat and sun like other Hyundai models before it.

Hi guys, well the same thing happened to me. The part just rotted, my fingers eventually went right through it. Your solutions are leave it (nahhhhh), fix it your self (maybe), take it to the dealer (if you are rich and have unlimited time). The fix actually took about 20 min (I have never done this before). Buy the part on your favorite site (I followed someone here who was nice enough to give us a link on ebay), it was about $35.00. It's not complicated (well it can be if you make it). Note you should disconnect the battery and take precautions when working on your car and with electricity any where (my disclosure), you take all the risks and responsibility for working on your car, this is just what I did. In any case, I removed the trunk lining (4 removable snap screws, 2 regular screws). I then removed the camera connector (it's plug ad play), I then removed the 4 screws for the camera (I removed the unit from the rubber cover(had to be gentle)). Now to the rubber cover itself, there are 6 clips on the unit, I started with the clips on the (lets call these East and West), I pressed them with a screw driver, (had to use eye protection, as these can fly out). I removed the two bottom clips (same way) and then removed the two top ones. Once this is done the unit just pops out. I attached the camera to the new unit and replaced it into the space (it pops in). I reconnected it to its plug and then reconnected the battery, (made sure the trunk opened and the camera worked).

I can open trunk with button on dash and key fob and close it with button on dash and button inside trunk but will no longer open when I press outside button on trunk beside backup camera... thoughts?

it may be a frayed wire in the harness, a common well documented problem that can be a diy fix. search the forum for wiring harness or rear lights

look at this thread about the wiring harness. If the trunk switch is connected by a wire in this harness there is a good chance its a frayed wire. If your car is under warranty I would take it to the dealer. Otherwise an independent auto electric can fix it.

2015 58k miles... only powertrain warranty left. Thanks

A few members here have had items in the rear of the car quit due to broken wires at the trunk hinge arms. Thread above deals with it.
