If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mismatched Bumper Color?

I bought a Havana Red G70 3.3 Sport last month and I'm loving it so far, but I've noticed that the front bumper seems to be a different shade of red than the rest of the car. I know the bumper is plastic so it isn't painted but it's washed out compared to the metal body panels. I'm aware of prior issues with body panels on Havana Red models but that issue only affected 2018 models as far as I can tell. I don't see any issues with color matching on any of the metal panels, just the front bumper.

Curious if this is just the way things are or if others have a good match between the bumper and the rest of the car.

See how much lighter the bumper looks as compared with the hood and side body panel?

No such issues between the hood, door, side, and a-pillar

Not sure what you mean by the statement your bumper is plastic and not painted? It is urethane and yes it is painted. Some manufacturers (toyota for example) paint their metal parts in a different location than urethane parts. Your match is so bad that I would think the dealer would probably agree to warranty re-finish for color match. But this is something you should have noticed before delivery, but still color match is terrible on your photos and needs to be corrected.
My black car had primer showing thru on bumper cover just in front of wheel on the right side. It was warrantied and refinished by dealer collision shop. Looks great now.

HR cars had this exact problem but I thought they were all bought back and corrected. Talk to your dealer, there’s articles about them pulling the color due to this exact issue

Mine is similar. Oddly enough the rest of the cars paint was in pristine condition with no scratches/contaminants. The front bumper had quite a few swirls and was rough to the touch. I plan on claying and polishing it to see if that makes any difference and brings the colour closer together.

Also, take a look at your rear bumper. It is also plastic and the colour mismatch is there but it is minimal, not enough to bother me personally. It's almost as though the material used for the bumpers is prone to more damage/fading/mismatch than the rest of the car.

If you ever discuss this with your dealer please let me know what they say!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Once things calm down with COVID I'll chat with my dealer and follow back up.

Hello, I too have the same issue but it was told to me by the dealer. My car is a 2019. The manufacturer titled all the red cars and sold them severely discounted as used because of this bumper paint problem. My car had 50 miles on it when purchased last month.

Claying and polishing should help with the surface roughness and the swirls. It shouldn't have any effect on the color. All you're messing with is the clear coat......you're not altering the color coat in any way.

Good luck with it and let us know how it works out for ya.

Scratches on the clear coat can cause the colour of the paint to look dull and cloudy. That's what my bumper looks like in comparison to the rest of the paint. So I'm hoping correcting it should bring the two closer together.

But yes, I don't think it'll completely resolve the issue - just make it less noticeable and not as concerning.

Virtually all cars worldwide have this issue. It might stand out more with certain colors, but the problem is there.

Bumpers - plastic
Body panels - metal

The exact same paint on different surfaces reflects differently.

Another thing to consider is that bumpers are never blended so color differences stand out more readily.

Yet another thing to consider is that from the factory, if your car's bumper is the first bumper to get a different color on the assembly line after the machine got done painting 2,000 of a prior color, there's bound to be some variance, as they don't clean out the spigot in between color changes.

Having said that, does the OP deserve a repaint? Absolutely. But, expectations should be tempered based on the above facts.

You're not alone - '19 G80 Sport AWD Havana Red with the same issue. After much turmoil I decided to live with it. A repaint brings with it other possible negative outcomes to the bumper being a shade off. I keep my cars for 15 to 20 years and a repaint is never as good as factory paint. This is my daily driver and honestly - the issue has faded for me. The car is covered in Xpel now too, so no going back. Besides - I can't see it from the driver seat which is where I prefer to spend my time.

This is an occurrence on all metallic paints but more noticeable on Havana Red than the rest. Front bumper tends to be lighter and rear appears darker. Earlier 2019 models were recalled for mismatched metal panels, not primarily for the bumpers.

I attached a picture for reference of an early 2019 Dynamic Edition with the paint issue.

True. I have worked in the body shop Industry for 35 plus years and we have had this same issue. You can paint the bumper and the fender in a paint booth at the same time and connected to each other and the color will still be off. Two different substrate materials. PPG Paint even put out a counter flyer to inform the customers of this.

Did you ever pursue this with Genesis? I have same issue and dealer gave me genesis corporate number. I have already been contacted and gave them info as well as the Jalopnik article that discusses the Red G70s that Genesis bought back from dealers, fixed, and wholesaled back to dealers to sell as used. I feel like mine (and yours) might have slipped through cracks.

I didn’t. Based the comments here I figured I’d just make it worse.

I received a 17k discount off MSRP on mine for this issue. Corporate did not repair them only sold them as used. Mine had 50 miles when purchased. It doesn’t bother me and no one else has noticed it.

Thanks for info. Just to clarify, did the dealer disclose that? Also, what is the model year and build date of your vehicle?

I just purchased a 2019 G80 Sport AWD with 13k miles in Havana Red with this same issue on the front and rear bumper. Didn’t notice it at the dealer where I bought it because of the lighting. Now I can’t unsee it lol, I think it’s still under warranty and I wonder if it would be worth it get it blended to match to the car
