  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm 62 years old and I've owned a whole lot of cars.

Every time I get a new one, I'm on blast to all my friends/family, posting on social media - LOOK AT MY NEW CAR!! LOOK AT IT!

Now I bought my G70 yesterday and I am reluctant to tell anyone. I haven't even told my son yet.

Look how rich I am, I bought a Genesis! I mean they aren't cheap, but with the kind of value you get for the money I should be screaming from the rooftops about it. So, I'm really not sure where this is coming from. I've never really owned anything super fancy before, no mercedez or lexus or bmw. So, maybe I'm just new to car elitism? It's a weird feeling.

My advise is to go low key. Anything else is bragging like "look at me". Your friends/family will see your new ride as you get together. I've had my G80 for 3 years now and most of the people I meet still don't know what a Genesis even is.

I don't consider this forum "social media". IF it is, I'm OUT of here.

But, but, but, leaving would be very UNsociable of you. Can't have that.

Me, too.

My friends and family know I’m absolutely nuts about my cars so they’d probably think something was wrong if I didn’t talk to them about my car (new or old). Besides, it seems to me that if you only wanted to be showing off you bought the wrong car. You need one of the “real” brands not Genesis. :)

narcissistic mentality that so many people fall into.

Not sure how that comes off as sarcastic...

Fixed it.

I'm a narcissist for being excited about getting a new car?

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the nine traits of a narcissist are; grandiose sense of self-importance, preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love, belief they're special and unique and can only be understood by, or should be...

I doubt you're any like the definition above. You're just excited about getting a new ride that's better than maybe 98% of the ones out there. Enjoy your G70. Last year I drove a G70 as a loner while my G80 was in the shop. Was a very impressed with it and felt I was more "connected" to it than my bigger G80.

Old threads here don't die, don't be surprised to see this thread pop up again in 2 years. If you don't want to keep seeing it, "unwatch" at the top of the page.

When you take it to this level, "I'm on blast to all my friends/family, posting on social media - LOOK AT MY NEW CAR!! LOOK AT IT! " then yes IMO.

I’m on my 4th Genesis and I’ve never told anybody I was getting a new car probably for the reasons you stated. I bought my G70 when I turned 72 and my wife said to me “why are you buying such young man’s car?”. I said I still enjoy driving and this car is so much fun it’s been a long time since I actually looked forward to a drive. I did very much enjoy that car. I only announced it on the forum when I got it only because I was so smitten with it. One Genesis later that’s still the way I do it.

Corvette is a young man's car too. Average age of owners is 61. Many of us are raising a family. paying for schools and other priorities at the age the sporty cars catch our eye.
Mustang is 55, Camaro 53

not to mention that my job and income finally exceeds all the expenses I've accrued over the last decades, (spouse, kids, etc.) if I was still at my old job, I would be looking for an pre-owned Camry or something.

I bought my 2015 because it was a Hyundai... it's low key and doesn't stand out. It even still has the H logo on the back... lol... The new designs are so in your face that I'm still unsure about but I can't think of another new car that offers that level of luxury that people don't know about.

Perhaps it's more what kind of car one bought? Several of my friends post of FB about their new car, you know, a GMC Terrain or a Jeep Cherokee. In other words, your average run-of-the-mill car. No one I know post on FB bragging about their new Mercedes or BMW or Audi because none of my friends can afford them; that's why I never post about my new acquisition because we buy only luxury brands. I'm thinking RellaG70 in the past posted about his new Ford, GM, etc. This time he got something really nice, a luxury car, and is thinking maybe he shouldn't post about it. Just my take. Or, I might be in left field. lol

This is definitely the fanciest car I've ever owned, so you're not wrong except where you called me "he". :) That's totally understandable though.
