Cooled passenger seat retrofit in 1st gen genesis.

Okay, so has anyone successfully managed to import a cooled passenger seat from the middle east or korea or something and fit it into their first gen 2009-2014 US genesis? I would think you would have to import the seat, as well as a switch from the middle east, and do all the wiring and fuses and stuff. Has anyone managed or even tried to do this? And what about the occupant sensing system? Would that work with a cooled passenger seat from the middle east or something?

The ventilated seats in the first generation Genesis seats came with the highest trim package which also featured upgraded leather. There should be plenty in junkyards by now.

Of course the seats look a bit different than the standard level seats. Even when new many owners didn’t like the look of the bottom cushions because they leave a much more noticeable “buttprint.” It embarrasses some folks to see their butt checks looking up at them as they enter the car. Personally, I would save the money and put it toward a future car with ventilated seats.

The seat is ventilated, not really cooled. While I do use the feature at times, the time and expense would not be worth the effort for me.

Apparently some other markets do get cooled seats, as there is a section in the G80 shop manual that covers them, including the TEDs that they use.

Yes the 1st gen Genesis had the option of ONE Vented seat (The driver seat) with the Tech Package. I believe the R-Spec is the only 1st Gen that has Both Driver and Passenger Ventilated seats. The OP is specifically asking about adding a 1st gen passenger seat that has the ventilation system in it.
Since the R-Spec has vented seats for driver and passenger, you could retrofit it. At the bare minimum you'd need the following from the donor car. The Seat, the switch, the wiring and possibly fuse block (if each seat is controlled off a separate bus). Now this isn't a guaranty that the seat rails will even fit/line up, so you may have to do some custom fitting. It's really not worth the effort in my eyes.

I stand corrected. Must be different in U.S vs Canada then. When I was looking (in Canada), the only 1st gen with vented driver and passenger seats was the R-Spec.

Sorry, it’s a split decision. Only the ‘14 came with both front seats ventilated.

I looked into this a few years ago. I am pretty certain no US-based Genesis had cooled front seats. Easiest way to tell is if the passenger side button has both a heat and cool switch button like the driver's side.

The seat is ventilated, not really cooled. While I do use the feature at times, the time and expense would not be worth the effort for me.

My '09 4.6 Tech trim had the active peltier coolers in the driver's seat (same as the '12). These are not passive "ventilator" blowers but active peltier-junction coolers. They were (and are) so strong in fact that on long drives I had to run them on low or my lower back would get uncomfortably cold.

I’ve learned in my ‘19 Santa Fe to direct the AC to the floor vents, as well as the dash vents. This helps the cooler air to get to my cheeks faster.

However, in korea, the middle east, and Russia from what I know, they did get the passenger seat cooled. So my question is could you import a passenger seat from those regions, as well as a switch from the middle east, and wire it all up and make it look OEM?

One auto mag stated the reason early Genesis sedans didn't have cooled passenger seats is that Hyundai wasn't sure they could get the full cooling apparatus into the seat without interfering with the occupant weight sensing equipment needed for the passenger side airbag. If somebody imports a non-US passenger seat to get the cooling function, they may find the replacement seat won't have the necessary airbag stuff... leading to a permanently lit airbag warning.

My 2013 rspec just has the driver seat cooled not the passenger both are heated.

I have a US 2014 RSpec sedan and only the driver seat has the cool function.
Both front seat are heated.
