Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to read this I’ll get to the point. My 2012 Genesis Coupe 2.0t was stolen from my parking garage and recovered 3 months later in surprisingly ok shape. I the car starts but it is missing something from under the hood and I’m trying to figure out what it is before I take it to the mechanic. If anyone could give me any input thank you so much. I’ll attach pictures to what’s been done/ the shape of the vehicle. 61k miles. I’m adding a few more things after posting the pictures the tube on the left side of the engine seems to have been removed from somewhere and then parts of the turbo pipes as you can see are held up with the bungee cord. I traced all those pipes and they are all together and attached so not sure what happened maybe it was from when the thief removed the bumper? Also there seems to be something missing from the left side under the hood as well. Any help I greatly appreciate I don’t know much about under the hood but you bet I’m learning now. The car was a gift about a year ago. 🙏

Seems someone was trying to get more power from the engine maybe? Some of those parts do not look stock on the induction system. The black hose by the oil filler cap from the valve cover probably goes to a PCV valve for emissions. If you can’t find the PCV valve, I’d at least temporary plug that hose for it’s sucking in dirty air for the moment.

Thank you for the reply I can’t seem to find where the hose by the oil filler cap would go. It’s not long enough to reach anything under the hood. It seems like something is missing near where the intake filter and everything sits there’s that screw spot with nothing in it but can’t seem to find what would be there, any thoughts on why the system is bungee corded ? Maybe from pulling off the bumper? The car starts and everything but yeah something isn’t right. Thank you again.

From memory, since I had a 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0T:

Intake is installed incorrectly. Pic1 is supposed to be attached to your engine bay to help support the intake. In addition, the intake is not plugged, there is a hole in the side that should be plugged in A/T cars or connected to the hose pictured in pic3 if a M/T car.

PIC3 needs to be either reconnected to the PCV valve if A/T, or connected to the bung on the intake if M/T.

PIC5 is an incorrectly installed intercooler. That is why it is hanging on with cords.

So if your engine has been sucking in dirty air for 3 months, I would have your mechanic inspect your turbo very closely. Probably going to see some chips in the fins, and/or significantly reduced turbo life overall.

In addition, all aftermarket parts should be removed and reinstalled. The intake looks to be reusable, along with the hot and cold side IC piping. But the intercooler itself may not be for the GCoupe, and thats why they couldnt install it correctly. Thats an unknown.

Good luck! Sucks this happened.

I wish I remembered what under the hood looked like before it was stolen, are you saying he probably took parts out and replaced them with old parts and installed them the wrong way? The car shouldn’t have been taking in dirty air for 3 months I think it hasn’t been driven since all these things were removed / changed by the thief. I’ll take it to the dealer I guess to find out exactly what’s going on.

The intake, intercooler along with hot and cold side piping are all not stock. And the intercooler core itself and intake are installed incorrectly even for aftermarket parts.

So the thief changed the parts but didnt drive it? I doubt that.

You dont need to remember when google is one click away:

It cuts off but that box to the left is the stock intake. You can see the stock piping for the IC not metal, and you can see where the PCV valvle lines go when the engine is stock. all connected to the intake

True thank you for the reply’s. Wow you think he changed that whole system ? Crazy if that’s the case, wow I should have paid more attention to what I was driving.

This might be a dumb question but by what you can see, what do you think I’ll need to get the car back on the road and running good? I’ll be taking it to the mechanic next week.

The intake needs to be reinstalled asap. You can that at home with basic tools. Its basically this video, just follow along to the parts that apply to you:
. If you reinstall the intake correctly, that will take care of the open PCV system.

The intercooler core that is dangling is a safety hazard for other drivers and who knows how this thief installed it. Thats something I would not drive around until you found a way to mount it correctly and double checked all the hose clamps to make sure they are tight.

Wow man you are amazing thank you so much and I will update you, currently moving back to Florida next week I’ll be working on the vehicle.
