2021/2022 Genesis G70 Sport or 2022 Kia Stinger GT2?

Thanks for the add, first post. The lease on my CPO 2015 Jaguar F-Type Convertible is up in a couple of months and I'm in the market for a sport sedan.

I know this is a Genesis forum but I was curious what the consensus was on the G70 vs the Stinger GT2. I'm sure there are some G70 owners that were considering both. What made you choose the G70 over the Stinger GT2?

i chose the g70 because i wasnt a fan of the looks of the stinger (the fake hood vents especially) and for some reason they put a tiny rear window in the stinger that limits visibility.

It may not be noticeable on a leisurely drive but the G70 handling is much better and not just on the track. To be fair the Stinger is a GT car and it's purpose is different.

Not to jump in mid-conversation, but I'm currently cross-shopping the two (as many of you all have I'm sure) and I have to second the other poster's comment. I think the Stinger feels much more "tame" than the G70.

It's understandable, of course, with the Stinger being much more of a GT car and the G70 being smaller, lighter, etc. But I much prefer the G70's feels.. I'd go so far as to say the Stinger felt 'boring'.

when i test drove the stinger it was along a windy road and it definitely handled that well. Ill have to drive the g70 on that road to see if i notice a difference.

I liked the smaller dimensions and lighter weight of the G70. I never actually drove a Stinger, but would like to have tried, just didn't get around to it.

Stinger Pro's

• a bit more leg room in the back (The Stinger crowd thinks it's football fields)
• Better trunk - no contest. It's just better
• Styling generally suits younger people
• Often can be less expensive

G70 Pro's

• Way cooler (fact)
• Better handling (Shorter wheelbase)
• Lighter trim for trim
• Slightly better interior
• Concierge service

Both cars are a great choice! (Something else the Stinger crowd won't tell you)

Another difference is the brand name. Genesis is looked at as a "luxury" car brand versus Kia as a "non-luxury" car brand. Some find it hard to spend 50k for a "Kia" badge when in reality both the G70 and Stringer are very close in quality (maybe the G70 has a slight edge) and cost about the same. I know a few Stinger owners who have mentioned that some people see the car as a regular old "Kia" and they get slightly annoyed by that and is something they say is a huge con of the Kia Stinger ownership, so I guess if impressions are important to you than that is something to consider as well.

Be sure to review the new Stinger as it has the 2.5T engine. Maybe you don't need the big 3.3t....

Well, considering the # of buyers getting loaded Tellurides ($50k or more; as high as $60k due to mark-ups), don't think that stigma holds (esp. as the top trim of the Carnival should also be in high demand).

But yes, the Genesis brand is a differential (and will only increase going forward).

That being said, it's the Stinger that is one of the quickest models to turn on the used market (at/near the top is the Telluride, along with the C8 Vette).

Don't think we'll see any Genesis models up there until the GV80 (and even more so for the GV70).

For me, the interior was what sold me on the g70 (at least for prestige and sport trims). Overall I just like the interior layout better (heat vent styling/dash and seat design are the main ones). Otherwise if the stinger had the interior of the g70 I probably would have gone that route since I really like the stinger looks and trunk.

I liked the interior of the G70 better and the fact that it was shorter and was told to handle better. I still love the Stinger, and if I were on the market again, I would give the 2022 Stinger another look. Another point to add in the Stinger Pros: more aftermarket options. For instance, Borla has an exhaust for the Stinger, not the G70, which is too bad because it really does sound good.

Well, Kia has decided to rearrange the packages on the 2022 Stinger. You can only get the goodies (HUD, cooled seats, etc) on the GT2. This pretty much ensures no one buys the 2.5T. The 2.0T didn't sell because it was a dog of an engine (I have one in the G70) but the 2.5T HP/MPG is so much better it would be great and a hot seller in the car.

If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, consider the Sonata N-Line. It's a great car, same 2.5T motor and it cost less. Also, the seats are better imo.

Yeah, I've looked at the sonata stuff. FWD vs RWD and you can't get AWD with the 2.5t. Hyundai wants to move their image but all they do is setup their packages to ensure you have econo boxes or luxo barges. No middle ground, no nuance.

No argument against FWD/RWD/AWD stuff. I don't know that I'd agree with the rest of it though. I mean Kia has only made one car and that's a shared development, that pushes boundaries or perceptions of their product. Maybe you can count their luxo barges?

There's no "Kia N". With Hyundai, there's been a few attempts. Tiburon, Genesis Coupe, every Veloster, all the N and N-Line vehicles. But that's the beauty of buying a car, you get search for what YOU like/want.

Yeah, both nice cars for sure. Interesting how little difference there actually is in rear seat space. It was a good comparison for the most part. I could pick apart some things but meh, can't go wrong either way.
