Yes.

It should do it if you open any window.

And it won't let you turn it back off? If my sunroof is open and I turn it back off, it turns back on again about every 3 minutes.

On the rare occasion that I open the roof or another window, I leave the climate control on auto, and that hasn't been a problem to me.

I see nothing in the manual about it. Makes sense though. If you did not want fresh air you would not open a window. When you do open them you get air currents and wind buffeting in the car. Putting the vent to fresh air may lessen pressure and balance the air flow.

In some cars, putting down the rear windows only creates a lot of noise from wind. Besides, if you break wind is is usually best to have fresh air circulating.

You know, I could've sworn I read that in the manual, BUT after searching I don't see it.
This is what I read, though not for the Genesis, but for another Hyundai. Pretty sure it works the same way on our models:

Sunroof inside air recirculation


When the heater or air conditioning system is on with the sunroof opened, the outside (fresh) air position will be automatically selected. At this time, if you press the recirculated air position button, the recirculated air position will be selected but will change back to the outside (fresh) air position after 3 minutes.


When the sunroof is closed, the air intake position will return to the original position that was selected.

The problem is that when the weather is nice but still cold in the morning I use the heater in the morning and open the windows in the afternoon with climate control off. The vents then switch to fresh air which is hot. 75 degrees with hot air blowing is not nice. I am one of those seemingly rare people who enjoy fresh air while driving and not being enclosed in a box.
The really of thing is I emailed Hyundai about it and they want me to take it to a dealer. Take it to a dealer for something functioning as intended! WTF

Set the temperature to the minimum setting before turning the system off, then the air coming out should be neither heated nor cooled.

Well you did not explain that in the first post. They probably want you to go to the dealer to explain how it works. Turn down the temperature.

Didn't need to explain that to get my answer. I know I can turn the temperature down. I just wanted to know if it was something the car was supposed to do or not. It's kind of odd when cars try and change your mind. Off should be off.

The more information you give the better answers you get. Not picking on you but there are often questions like "my engine is making a noise, what is it?"

Well when I gave that information the answer I got was to turn the temperature down. Not really a better answer which is why posted it the way I did.

I might be a bit late to this party, BUT. I dealt with this for too long and finally found my fix. I started noticing that when I switch the air back to circulating (even with the windows and top open) the air will stop blowing at me. Just my quick fix, but haven't found permanent solution than pressing another button every day.
