After 16 months my 1st disappointment

16,600 miles later and the wear bars on the tires are quite prominent. I consider myself an average driver and have owned many cars over the last 50 years but I never had to replace 4 tires at 16K miles. Tomorrow I will spend $1000 to replace all 4 tires .. I might have had 1 to 2 thousand miles left but I did not want to wait and find out. I would love to complain to somebody but it would be a waste of breath. I think the car is great but the tires suck. I have read some people have 30,000 miles on their tires. Can't figure what I did wrong. Tomorrow Bridgestone tires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tom

Wow, that's pretty fast considering how hard the OEM tires are! Did you rotate regularly? What psi do you run?

Fwiw, I'm at 12k, and the tires still look new - deep tread. maybe you can warranty the tires or at least get prorated from Hyundai since the wear is so premature.

Look at the bright side though, now you can get better tires!

You must be driving that car like you stole it. 16.6k miles and the wear bars are showing. I have 21k miles on mine. Drive it FAST on the open road, (three long trips so far) but in normal everyday driving, I don't horse it, and I still have a minimum of another 10k left. Will probably have to change them between 30 and 40k.

No matter what tires you get, if you only got 16k out of the 5000m tires, you will not get a lot more from your replacement tires.

I had the same issue with my Dunlaps...22,000 on mine. I felt early on tires were the weakest link. If you are getting the Bridgestone Turanza you are going to be very satisfied with the performance and they are much more quiet than the Dunlaps (after breaking them in) Good Luck!!!!!

I have 11k on mine and a tire guy said I was aboiut 1/2 way down. Look like around 20k, with spirited driving

The Potenzas were equally disappointing, so much so that if I can help it, I'll never buy another Bridgestone Tire.

I managed to get almost 35K out of my OEM's, and maybe could have pushed 40K, but they were starting to get pretty unstable if there was any sort of rain.

$1000 for a new set, WOW! I hope those are some great tires.

I don't know what to tell you except for my current experience. The moment I drove the Genesis with the new Turanzas I could feel the difference and not feel or hear the worn out Dunlaps. The handling was much improved and much, much better in wet conditions. What really blew me away was after breaking in the new tires they became noticably quieter while driving on the freeways. The noise level in the Genesis traveling 80 mph on asphalt is not much different than traveling 35 mph in town. Its rather a bold statement but that is what I have found!!

After I posted the above post, I went out and measured the tread on my tires.

Tread depth where there is NO wear bar is between 5½ and 6, 32nds.
Tread depth ON the wear bars is between 3½ and 4, 32nds.
This means that I still have 2, 32nds to go before they reach the wear bars.

I have 20,800 miles on them. Rotated them twice, first at 9500 miles and again at 19,000 miles, using Hyundai's rotation design, not the dealers rotation design.

Seeing the price for new tires today, I long for the time "years ago" when I purchased five (5) new Seiberling NyTex tires, size 7.00 x 13 for slightly less than $100.00 plus tax which at that time was somewhere around 4 or 5%.
(I wonder if the Seiberling Brand still exists?)

OP,
I think it's a good idea to check your alignment, if you haven't had yours done yet.
Alignment from the factory isn't the ideal to begin with.

Excessive toe will EAT UP the tires.
Our Genny have some agressive rear negative camber, and out of spec toe would just trash a set of new tires quickly.

I do ALOT of city driving and sharp turning because of where I live Also the back tires ( probably because of the rear platform) had worn out quicker than the front. I rotated tires evey 5-7k miles

I was wondering... since you have the V8, you have the limited slip differential. When you are on the gas, like when accelerating from a stop, the rear wheels lock and turn equally as fast. Its good for a race track, but in the city where you make a lot of tight turns, it means a lot of tire-grind as one wheel is forced to spin faster than it wants to and the tire basically spins along the ground, wearing down the tread.

There's no fix, its just the nature of the drivetrain, but it explains why your rear tires wear out sooner than your fronts.

At 16,000 miles my tires still have way more than 50% of the tread remaining. I expect them to last 35,000 to 40,000 miles before I have to replace them.

I can't find that info as well.
IMO, Hyundai didn't really need to put LSD on this car. It's a V8 lux sedan, not a performance car.
I gotta crawl underneath my car one day and check it out for myself.
