  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Brake Vibration?

If I recall, first they machined the rotors which made it better but only temporarily. So I took it in again and they changed the rotors out completely, under warranty. Car was back to like new.

Since then, I can feel it getting worse again but not nearly as bad as the first time. For now, knock wood, I feel like it’s normal wear.
Thanks for the update this seems to be a problem with rotors calipers and pad combo

I'll see how long mine last since at 9000 they machined my rotors

I've had all rotors machined, one rear rotor replaced, front machined, rear machined, front rotors replaced. All warranty, in that order over a year. I've since changed the pads, vibration is back and am going to buy EBC rotors or anything not OEM to solve this and the dealership is never working on my brakes again. Worst part of the car. 50,000km. Local GEM is fantastic, OEM parts and Hyundai service dept are flaws.

You need better pads or it will keep happening. The stock pads on most models are NFG.

Thanks love the car otherwise

What pads do you recommend

Assuming we're talking about a G70, I know from experience that the factory "Euro" pads are good. They come standard on the Dynamic edition and I believe on the 2.0 manual sport models. However they are very expensive (like $400 for front and rear, even if you buy them from one of the "discount" Hyundai parts dealers). The part numbers and the name of the discount dealers is in this thread. Do a search and you'll find it.
There are also some (not many) aftermarket choices people have tried with mixed results. Again, those are mentioned in this thread (I believe Hawk has some).
The factory rotors are fine.

Here you go, from another thread on G70 Aftermarket Pads. Lots of informative reading there too.
Here are pictures of the front and rear "Euro" semi-metallic Brembo brake pads you can get from Genesis. I didn't take pictures of the stock pads, but the Euro pads definitely have a rougher feel to them, being that they are semi-metallic. They are a nice upgrade, with the only downfall being they do dust significantly more, FYI.

Front part # 58101-J5A55, rear part # 58302-J5A55

I paid $440 shipped for front and rear pads, from Conicelli Hyundai out of Conshohocken PA. I live in Ohio for reference.

What are my stock pads doing to cause the vibration and need to cut front rotors

stock pads are ceramics on any trim but the 3.3T Dynamic and 2.0T 6MT Sports. ceramics are great for low dust and long life, but they lend themselves to more pad deposits since they are not abrasive enough nor do they heat up enough for short urban commutes. exact same thing happened with my previous G37S which had OEM ceramic pads.

3.3T Dynamic and 2.0T 6MT get the 'Euro/Sport' semi-metallic pad which is more abrasive. this helps to scrub clean any pad deposits which effectively eliminates the 'warped rotor' sensation. it also handles higher heat better to reduce fade. brake dust is a pain but the sport rims pretty much conceal the dust. after washing my car the rotors get rusty haze (to be expected, they are iron), but a quick drive around block and even light brake application is enough to scrub off the rust.

Stinger and G70's have suffered well documented brake failure by the auto mags (C&D at their lightening lap) which led to Genesis/Kia overnighting the Euro/Sport pads which solved the problem.

Thanks. My 3.3 G70 with elite pack shouldn't have had to be cut at 9000 mikes

That's for sure! I didn't get 5,000.

Anyone had to take their 3.3T in for early brake service. I am noticing a vibration / shudder (generally) braking from higher speeds. I’m only at 17k km (11k miles) which seems pretty early for warped rotors or low pads.

Brakes have been great up to this point.

I have a 2019 G70 3.3 and have exactly the same problem. Mine happened right after a front tire change. I called the dealer service to ask for an appointment to have them check if my tires were properly balanced since I was scared my rotors might go bad. Now, I'm being told my rotors need resurfacing and will cost me $459. But why should I shoulder the cost if my tires weren't balanced properly from the start? My car is 2 yrs old but I only have 14k mileage in it! This only happened after the last tire change...

a tire out of balance wouldnt cause your rotor to go bad.

Unbalanced wheels at high speed will not cause the car to shake? Is this just your opinion or are you an expert on this?

^ no, he said a wheel out of balance will not cause a rotor to 'go bad'. that is true - the two are independent of each other. but yes, an unbalanced wheel can make a car shake at speed. you're mixing up two topics. warped rotors will cause shuddering only under braking.

thats not what I said. Your wheel being unbalanced and your rotor issue are 2 different things.

I just picked up a 2019 G70 AWD Design, after the brakes warm up from driving there is really bad brake shudder felt in the steering wheel. I tried the bedding suggestion to try and clean up the rotors but it hasn't worked. I see what looks like blue streaks in the front rotors but the rears look really clean. It is pretty smooth when first driving cold, but then gets bad after driving a while and braking hard.

My plan is to pickup a set of EBC YellowStuff front and back with new Centric Premium rotors for the front. Does this sound like a good plan to fix the issue? Or do you think I should get rear rotors as well? I am open to recommendations, seems like some good sales right now.
