Lost Brake while having my kids in my 5.0

I was taking my kids to the ice cream store today. On the first stop sign I pushed the brake and it went all the way down. Fortunately car stopped. I turned back home (with crying kids in my car lol).
When I sopped at home EBD light came on. I checked the level of brake fluid and to my surprise the reserver was empty. Since I have not checked the level for 2 years I though maybe I was low on brake fluid. I added some but the brake pedal was soft. I though maybe there is air in the system. I decided to bleed the brakes.
While jacking the car up I saw a wetness in the middle of the car. The car was leaking brake fluid. I guess from the lines. I am not sure because it's covered with panels.
Has anybody seen something like this?

Not on a Genesis but yes. Brake line corrode, especially in areas where they salt the roads. I know of at least three cars that had lines replace in the 5 to 7 year range. All different makes. all built in the last 20 years.

I don't know if material is different or thinner but I drove some older car with many miles and never had a line corrode. .

Sound like a cracked brake line or a leak from the ABS module. The ABS module is located under the fuse box in the engine bay.

I would pull the negative battery cable off the battery in the trunk and check the ABS module for any wetness. It is known to short out and catch fire if a leak occurs with it. If the module is fine, then you may have a brake fluid line that is compromised.

Isn't this a dual brake system, with dual sections in the reservoir so if a line brakes and drains fluid from 1 section, you still have 50% brakes?
Also: I thought there was a sensor to detect uneven pressure as occurs with fluid loss; shouldn't OP have had a warning light on the dash?

That used to be common, maybe even up to the early 90s. However, AFAIK, they all switched to using a low brake fluid level switch instead. I think that some ABS systems will trigger a brake light if they detect a pressure drop.

There is a recall on the brake lines for early production 2015 Genesis. Call your dealer and see if your car falls into that date range because it sounds like that's what the problem is.

I’m sorry that this happen, even more so while your kids were in the car. But I’m glad to hear no one was hurt and that a collision was avoidable.

Thanks everybody. I have some updates. I towed the car to the dealership this morning and waiting for their report. There was a big puddle of brake fluid underneath the car roughly around the centre console. There was no leak from brake booster or ABS module.

Are you sure? It can be very hard to tell because the leak will follow the lines till it hits a low point and drip off there.

No I am not sure. That might be the case.

I got a call from the dealership. The brake lines are blown. He said there was a recall for your car about the problem. I am positive that I checked with them about a year ago and there was no recall for the brake lines. Also the car has been for service since then and no one mentioned anything.
He said it’s a big job. The entire underbody panels need to come out. Also gas tank and other parts. He said it’s 6:30 hours job.
on top of that they are going to order the fuse for the other recall.
I don’t understand why there was no warning from them. This problem put my family life in danger.

Are you the first owner? If not, the original owner may have just tossed the notice.

You should be able to check for recalls on the Hyundai owners web site. Sounds like the dealer did not check.

As a matter of fact I just checked my vin in Hyundai Canada website. There is no recall for the brake lines. The only recall is the fuse. I attached it here.
Also there was an old recall which was done in 2015.

Thank goodness yall stopped safely, that's a scary scenario.

It's not a recall, but a mandatory TSB for the affected VIN range and location (salt belt states).

Just came out about 2 months ago. My car is in the shop as we speak for 2+ weeks. They do need to remove many parts including dropping the gas tank.

You should be able to check for recalls on the Hyundai owners web site. Sounds like the dealer did not check.

I didn't get a notice, dealer mentioned it when going in for an oil change. Considering the picture in the non salt state TSB, kind of surprised there is no recall letter.

Wow! This is very concerning. I am going to call MTO and complain. They are putting people’s life in danger by not issuing a recall. Every owner in Canada must know about that problem.

I called the Corporate client line yesterday. I asked them why haven't you pushed a recall for this problem yet. People could be injured or killed if they lose their brake while they are driving.
They said we only push recall for safety concerns!!! For this problem we just have a service campaign.

It is not a safety concern. You can just open the door and drag your foot to stop. Always wear rubber soles shoes for best results.

Perhaps with enough reports it will raise the level to a recall.

lol, they must push a recall asap. If an accident happens because of this it would be really bad for their reputation.
