  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New to the forum & new to the brand. I did have Hyundai XG 350 that I loved until a local Moose stepped out in front of me & committing suicide. The impact almost took the roof off the car laying it on the trunk lid.
I'm considering the G80 w/V8 and want to know if any gitty up parts are available other than a tuner? I found its motor lacking. I realize there are warranty concerns and I would keep the bottom end stock and my guess is one can't even find aftermarket camshaft. I get speed is a question of money, how fast can I afford. I have a '96 Caprice that I converted to all-aluminum 6.0L, that is my go fast car. mind spending some money to make the engine breath better, run harder. I apologize for the long letter oh, I appreciate any info you fellows can give me, Casey

The 5.0 V8 is pretty max out in stock form. Aside from a tuner; you may be able to squeeze about 30hp flywheel power with higher flowing air-filters(10-15hp),performance exhaust(10-15hp), and a throttle-body coolant bypass(5-10hp).

So with a BTR tune(about 20hp) and the mods I described; you may uncork about 40-50hp(estimate) total. Not much for a 420 hp engine, but it helps.

Are you aware if a supercharger is available? I'm sure one could bolt on a turbo, of course it would need to be tuned afterwards. Is the transmission strong enough to add another
100-150 HP? The tuner you mentioned, does it tune the transmission as well?
Thanks for the info!

To my knowledge; no 5.0 specific turbo or supercharger kit exist that can be purchased as a ready made kit. However, you could probably find a custom tuning shop that could build a custom force induction kit for you for $$$$$ with iffy reliability.

I am not sure how much extra torque the stock 5.0 transmission can take over time before the clutches start slipping. However, a few of the owners with tuned 3.3T engines in this forum are running their similar stock transmissions with about 100+ ft/lbs of extra torque and they seem to be holding up so far. Time will tell if the transmissions will crap out on those tuned cars as they age.

It does not seem that the BTR tune cover the transmission for the 2015+ models.

Thank you for the info. In my opinion the trans is the weakest link unless a shop can be found to build a proper trans that can handle a boosted engine. I learned a expensive lesson when I turned up power/torque of my Cummins powered Ram with a Smarty tuner. Fresh trans with HD clutches, BD valve body & TC was smoked within 6K miles! I was warned & didn't listen to my trans guy. There is something about a dually breaking the tires loose at 20 mph. Thanks again

Many people do not realize that upping the power in an engine also require matching upgrades to the entire drive-train like the transmission for long term reliability.

I learned that lesson twice with a IPD tuned Volvo S80 T6 and APR tuned VW GLI with a DSG. Both cars ended up with transmission problems after running the tunes that upped the stock boost levels. Fun cars while they lasted.:)

Therefore, I bet many of the tuned 3.3T Genesis/Stingers engines out there will be someone else problem when the current owners dump them at or before 100k miles with excessive worn out transmission clutches.

Not many of the stock Hyundai 8 speed automatic transmissions will run long after 100k miles with the torque extra load created by the tuners. However, i could be wrong. Time will tell I guess when these newer tuned 3.3T engines start racking up miles and the weak point starts to show.

A BTR tuned 5.0 engine only gain about 20hp/20ft/lb which is not stressing the transmission that much I assume; unless the stock transmission is already running at it torque limits with the stock 5.0 engine 380 ft/lb torque.
