  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Trunk Lid Self Opening

I accessed the lifters or pistons without removing trunk liners, rather pulled them aside.
I tried lifters from Advance Auto Parts store, no force was indicated on these, they did not hold the trunk open, the lid came down in a slam.
More to follow after I receive other lifters from the internet source.
My pictures are from 2011 Genesis and 2014 Equus.

So if I had to do it again....
Finally got to this - Your instructions in this post were perfect - I might've damaged one of the plastic holders a little but it's holding fine.
Replace both of mine - it now lowers and rises automatically like butter.
Thanks again

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I changed these on a 2011 Genesis and a 2014 Equus.
Results; easier to lift the trunk lid up, but neither raises up and open by the only the lifters.

Hyundai Part No.:81810-3N000, power lift for an Equus-2014, only $2985... I guess I need to accept "arm workouts" when using the trunk.

I tried an aftermarket part that is equivalent to the B1010 strut for the motorized trunk and boy does that trunk open. The wife is unable to close the trunk with one arm 😂 and two arms is a workout. The B1010 strut is rated 80+ lbs, the existing B1000 struts are rated 22lbs. I have found some after market struts that are rated for 45lb. I will try those on and see how the trunk opens. BTW I am only replacing one of the existing strut

Hope the trunk or hinges don't bend on ya!

The aftermarket part I installed is Strongarm 6926 (got it from rock auto) and the trunk opens beautifully. Not as violent as the B1010 struts and much easier to close the trunk. One thing I noticed is that the aftermarket part had a thinner rod compared to the existing B1000 strut, but I dont think that will be an issue since the B1000 struts are rated 22lbs and the Strongarm is rated 45lbs. Worst case I can always install the original strut.

I got rid of my Genny a few weeks ago but up to that point it was working great...
Thank you Celltech for the detail instructions to install the new struts.

Strongarm 6926
Did you just install one? I replaced both of mine last summer with aftermarket struts - the trunk opened fine for about 2 weeks and then nothing. what a pia

Yes, only replace one original strut, left or right doesn't matter, I changed the driver side one. The strongarm 6926 is rated at 45lb, while the original is 22lb. So you only need one.
