  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone, looking for some advice on choosing the Hyundai Genesis sedan 3.8. Is 2016 model a more reliable car than the 2014 model? Thank you.

They are totally different cars. All depends on how previous owners took car of the cars.

Who told you that the ‘14 was not reliable????

From what I read, the 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 3.8 are reliable. I am trying to decide between a 2014 model and 2016 model and wondering which one overall is more reliable.

The problem is that a lot of that will have to do with how the previous owners treated each one.

I'd rate them equal. Neither has a particular quirk. I'd decide on style, price, features.

Like any car, it is a crap shoot. Either one can easily go another 150k, or either one can have a major problem next week.

2014 was the most reliable year for the BH sedan, by a large margin. No idea about the 2016, but stay away from the 2015s as they had a lot of 1st model year issues.

Neither the '14 or the '16 will be under factory warranty, and out of warranty repairs are crazy expensive on these cars (like BMW/Mercedes/Audi expensive) due to HMA's monopoly on parts, proprietary computers, and dealer profits coming more or less only from repairs and used car sales, etc.

You don't want to own one of these cars out of warranty unless you consider it disposable. Major repairs can easily cost more than the car is worth.

If I were buying used today, I would spend the extra coin for a 3ish year old car ('18 or '19) with <35k miles and sleep well knowing I had a couple years remaining on the OEM bumper to bumper warranty.

If I had to choose between a 14 and a 16, all other things being equal (other than price) I would go with the 14 no question. Less sunk up front cost means less tears when it blows up... be it next week or next decade.
