  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone done this? I can't find any info on the net, I don't even know where the oil in and oil out is. I beleive it is a sealed unit but the service manual recommends a replacement at 105k miles so it must be doable.

Any tips would be appreciated except "take it to the dealer!"

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, you're mostly going to get the "take it to the dealer" answer. From what I've read on here, you're kinda stuck with a professional shop that's got the facilities to do it. The trans pan is plastic, and I believe had an integrated filter. If I remember correctly, there is a fill plug on the side of the trans, but it's been almost 2 years since I have physically looked at the trans.

I "took it to my indy" as a drain/fill will only allow a partial drain of the existing fluid. Even with replacing the pan, I got just under 7qts of fluid drained out of the tranny.

Thanks for the advise. I tried to do it on my old Jag XK8 and it was a nightmare and very messy ( still got the stains on the driveway ). I hate that a car that is still in great shape is most likely to end up in the scrap yard because you can't service it. I will find out what the stealership will charge.

Thanks for your input. Did you notice any improvement in the transmission?

Absolutely. I did mine at 60K and the difference was significant enough that I may do it again at 120K.

You remove the rear transmission dirt/dust guard and then drain out the fluid. If I recall something like 3qts came out. Then I removed the drain pan to replace the filter and clean it out. Not super hard. Just slow work on jack stands. I had to angle the back of the transmission pan to install it back on.
