  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What size Torx socket is required to replace the DH front wheel hubs?

I bought a T-50 at the auto parts store. It was too small and damaged the bolt head. Does anyone know what size Torx I need for these huge bolts? T-55? T-60?
I'm too tired tonight to take one to the store to find out what fits. The one I damaged with the T-50 is on my desk in front of me. I checked the service manual and found nothing. It's past my bedtime anyway.

I would just buy a T55 and T60 to be sure.

I would also buy the torx plus version of the T55 and T60. Torx plus bits helps prevents rounding the torx bolts heads by providing a snugger fit. I learned that lesson the hard way over the years after stripping many torx bolts with loose fitting normal torx bits.

Thanks CarGuy. I'm on my way to Harbor Freight in Gainesville with the bolt in my pocket. They have advertised a set of bits for $30.

I got the bits. It is a T-55 for the front wheel hubs. The 1/2" drive T-55 fit like a glove on my 1/2" impact. The eight bolts on two front bearings were out in 10 minutes. :D Getting the rusted rotor off the hub was much more time consuming. When I replaced the noisy front bearings on Wifey's 2010 at ~100K, it eliminated front end noise instantly. This salvage yard 2015 has ~100K on it already, so it makes sense to replace the front bearings while I'm replacing the front ball joints.
The retail price for new front ball joints was incredible, but a boneyard in Fort Worth had the entire knee for half of the dealer price for just one lower control arm. My credit card is getting a real workout! :sorrow: Within a month the payback to VISA is going to be the equivalent to another car payment! :verysad:
I missed my target deadline on the crashed blue one, but I might have the salvage one finished by Sunday. Then its back to to work on Monday.

Did you have to remove the control arm to do this? My Torx bit wont fit in the area of one of those bolts. Did you have this problem too? 2015 Ultimate.

I don't recall because it was two years ago. Sometimes I remove parts that are in the way.
