  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The SCC malfunction light has recently come on on my 2013 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. Apparently one cause could be a faulty speed sensor. When loooking for parts I found a number of speed sensors on this car. Does anyone know whic sensor is linked to the SCC?

The transmission is also a bit jerky at times, especially in a traffic jam, but this has been happening for a long time and I know is a common issue on this car but it may be related.

The SCC fault happened immediately after it had been in a workshop to have a broken spark plug removed but the workshop said there's no way it is related. I know the fuse is good but that's as far as I've got so far.

Thanks in advance.

Is your ABS light on?
Is your speedometer working?
If no and yes, then it's not a speed sensor.

Why take such wild guesses at it? It has identified a problem area, get the diagnostic codes read and follow the troubleshooting flowchart for each one.

No ABS light and the speedo is good. I believe the cruise control isn't monitored by the ECU and no check engine light comes on, only the cruse control malfunction light comes on when the cruise is switched on.

No, the SCC is not "monitored" by the PCM (or ECU), however all the different electronic modules on the car set diagnostic codes that can be read on the OBDII bus, thought likely only by a few scan tools that read Hyundai manufacturer specific codes. You don't have to believe this for it to be true.

I beleive you! :-)

I have a Foxwell NT301, not sure if it's capable but I will give it a try at the weekend.

I have one of those. It works well with my daughter's 2012 Sonata. I need to find something newer for my Cadenza and my G80, however.

Your issue with SCC malfunctioning is simple to resolve Start with the easy things Check the connectors to make sure it's fully inserted in all the way ie plug(from harness) and socket at SCC unit mounted on your radiator core support behind your front bumper on the passenger side(you may want to consider removing your front bumper which is easy) If everything is fully connected you may want to check your SCC harnesses connector wires If everything checks out good with the electrical connections after this you may want to consider replacing the actual SCC unit

There are many things connected to the SCC system:
* Speed sensors on all 4 wheels.
* HECU (ABS) unit.
* Steering wheel position sensor OR ECS accelerometer (not sure, but it slows in turns).
* Radar module.
* ECS system.
* TCS system.
* Parking brake.
* Brake pedal switch.
* Cruise Control buttons.

I agree with the shop, a spark plug replacement would not cause a SCC system failure. Rough shifting transmission is independent of the SCC system.

If none of the brake system idiot lights (ABS, parking brake) are lit and the ECS and TCS systems lights are out, then I would focus my initial troubleshooting efforts elsewhere. Specifically: the radar unit and SCC control modules. $3-5k to replace them with new OEM parts. Probably less from a junkyard or ebay, although a dealer re-calibration may be required.

Welcome to the R Spec Sedan lab See pictures below Not too many issues cause SCC unit malfunctioning Among a few that do will be a collision, debris, water flood, electrical circuit etc There's a possibility that something accidental may have happened to your vehicle at that mechanic shop without your knowledge unrelated to spark plugs You have to physically check your SCC module connections or replace it Check pictures

Thanks for the advise and sorry for the late reply. Can you tell me where the SCC unit is please?

I'm suspecting the front right parking sensor has failed as it used to flash green on the dash and chime but now it doesn't show anything at all. I have ordered a new one and will fit it at the weekend. Is this a possible culprit for the SCC malfunction?

Thank you for the comprehensive list.

I believe I have had a faulty front parking sesnsor which has finally failed and will replace it at the weekend. If that doesn't solve the problem I will go through your list starting with the brake pedal switch. My steering wheel buttons are pretty new so that will be the last check. Thanks again.

Thanks again. I'll check the SCC unit when I replace the parking sensor which is also on the passenger side. Fingers crossed. I won't be spending $4k on a new SCC unit, that's for sure. A speeding ticket is cheaper :)

The parking sensors are not related.

Yes the parking sensors have nothing to do with your SCC module unit as far as I know Follow the advice that I gave you previously check your harness connections If that checks out replace your SCC module Try Ebay or a local junk yard for a replacement if not let me know I can assist you get a fully functional one for your vehicle

My adaptive cruise is very intermittent on my R-spec. I was told buy dealer to replace all the bumper sensors for $6k. I will not be using cruise control.

at it's worth, I just replaced a faulty parking sesnsor on my car and it made no difference to the SCC malfunction
