  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I don't know, but when I look at that thing (GV60 based on Ioniq playform) all I can see is little tiny Hyundai that I saw plenty of while being in Korea. I just think it's counter-active on trying to establish the brand as Benz/BMW rivaling luxury.

You mean like a Cadillac Cimarron?
I never though much of the Mercedes C class either. Just did not have the pizzazz of the larger models.
You do have a point but it may be the future for all cars to go smaller. We won't know for another 5 or 10 years for sure.

When I take that into account; where the world should be heading in terms of vehicles and becoming increasingly eco-friendly over a couple decades I think you have a very valid point. Time will tell.

While the GV60 does nothing for me in terms of design, the Germans have models that are even smaller (or dorkier-looking), even if not all of them are available here.

Lexus is going ahead with a small CUV slotting underneath the UX (which is based on the C-HR), albeit may not hit these shores.

Think Genesis will be fine as there will be dedicated BEVs above the GV60, including performance oriented ones.

The GV60 is really geared for the Euro market.

If BMW is the design benchmark for EV's then that's not a very high bar.

I think someone stuck a BMW badge on a Fiat or Smart. Only time I'd been seen driving it is on Halloween wearing a mask.

It's an i3. I've seen several around here. The model has been out for a few years now.

Complicated subject. Car brands in general seem to have very different reputations in different markets. Did the 318ti kill the bmw reputation in the USA? This was kind of a bargain basement car for them. It didn't succeed in the US but certainly didn't hurt them. It's worth mentioning I like that car (I love hatchbacks/wagons).

Does this GV60 kill Genesis? Heck no. If anything is going to kill Genesis it's the dealers. We're in crazy times for cars. We're in this weird transition time between gasoline powered cars, hybrids, and electric cars. We're dealing with personnel shortages at dealerships so service sucks and vehicle supply issues so prices suck.

And, with more available models, I wonder if it will help with the growth of stand alone Genesis dealerships?

In Socal where I live (Temecula area) the Hyundai dealership was going to build a separate Genesis dealership but canceled it I was told because they didn't see it being profitable with only a couple of Genesis models being available. A full dealership for only a few vehicles was apparently not seen as profitable.

They went the opposite way and now don't even sell them anymore.

This is the biggest hurdle for Genesis. BMW, Lexus, Audi and Merc sell ~30k cars a month, while genesis sells 3-5k in the US. Unless you are a "high" volume Genesis seller, there isnt a ton of profit available for a dealership.

It's a chicken-and-egg scenario. Without their own dealership network, Genesis won't be able to be a volume brand in the U.S.

Yes, and having some dealers give it up may help others and overall improve the brand image. Original plan was 100 dealers, not the 400 they were forced to have initially. I imagine it will take five years to sort it all out.

I'm not a GV60 buyer as I'll never own a cuv but I do want a small, high end vehicle. So far the G70 is one of the few on the market that fits my wants.

I think more and more people want small, nice vehicles.

This isn't that much better...

And the EQS went from a sleek concept to a derp-mobile.

I only had half my eyes (and less of my brain) focussed on the screen, and when I scrolled past that, I thought it was a return of the Smart care. :)
