  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tried the search, didn’t find the answer I was looking for. I really don’t like the collision avoidance feature (automatic braking) on my 2019 G70. I can turn it off temporarily in the menus, but it resets every time I turn the car off.

Is there a way to turn it off permanently?

What is the problem with it?

I have same yr/model and I had it activate maybe 3-4 times in 2 yrs and I drive pretty aggressive! Perhaps it’s your driving style you need to change?

Nah, I’ve been driving for 45 years and never hit anything. Not my driving style. I don’t want the computer overriding my judgement.

The computer doesn't override your judgment you can override the computer. The computer has a faster reaction time than you do that is fact. You are probably driving like a maniac and tailgating.

That's simply just not true. I'm with OP on this one. The computer lacks context which has caused more dangerous situations than it has prevented for me.

OP - no way that I know of to turn it off permanently. The quickest way to turn it off is by pressing and holding the traction control button, however you also lose traction control so not advisable in rain/snow.

again its easy to override the computer. I have been driving cars with autobrake since they were introduced to the main stream in the 2012 by volvo. All different brands. Not ONCE regardless of brand has it ever activated the braking other than a warning chime before brake activation. It intervenes in the very last second.

When I say “activate” I meant it just “warned” me but never actually had to brake for me. You can change the reaction time of the warning in settings to early, normal, or late if you want. In your case the “late” setting might help somewhat.

Thanks Bhavie for answering my question. The rest of it was pretty judgy and not helpful.

He judges everyone that owns a genesis.

I changed my setting to warning late and that tends to help some. However, I turn it off when I know im going to be in traffic. Ive had it brake for me while switching lanes to get to an off ramp, and its not great when you have a small window and everyone is going 70-80 mph

Yea, it can be extremely dangerous. I've had it brake for me when overtaking because it thinks I'm going to collide with the car in the lane I'm switching out from. Problem is it activates once I'm halfway back into the left lane, and effectively looks like I'm brake checking the car I'm overtaking.

I tend to turn it off with the button when I know I'm going to do something that the computer doesn't react to quick enough or is unable to contextualize.

Again, this is just an example of Genesis being overly protective with any and all features in their cars. This is one example where it has the opposite effect of what it's intended to do.

I'm driving a '18 G80 Sport and I DON'T consider the automatic braking feature dangerous. The few times it lit up, it was caused by "grandpa or grandma" SLOWLY making a right hand turn into a parking lot. The BIG yellow BRAKE warning came on in the center instrument panel, but by that time was already on the brakes. IF I hadn't noticed how slow they were vacating the lane, the auto brakes probably would have slammed on.

I'm guessing the feature reduces your auto insurance costs. One feature of the system that is annoying is when it kicks in on curves, sensing a slower vehicle in the next lane over to be in my lane even though is isn't. Bordering on dangerous when some jerk is right on my rear bumper.

Let me clarify that I'm talking specifically about the g70. 2020 g70 in my case.

My sister's CLA250 (which we used to share) has the feature and it has never activated.

My college roommate had this super aggressive way of driving. He would tailgate and weave in and out of traffic like a Forumla One Driver. I imagine he hates forward collision warning if he can afford a car that offers it. I hated riding with him. activates once I'm halfway back into the left lane, and effectively looks like I'm brake checking the car I'm overtaking.

Have the same issue with my 2022 g70. I thinks it’s absolutely ridiculous that you have to reset it every time you start the car. Why give the option to turn it off in the first place if you have to keep on turning it off every time start up the engine? This single issue has ruined the driving experience for me on this car. I’ve had it for a week and already had my brakes slammed on me 3 times. Honestly wouldn’t have even considered getting this car if I knew this would be an issue. yes, I know, sounds dramatic but Im an aggressive driver and can’t begin to explain how much this bugs me.

I haven't tried it but see if you can cover the radar sensor. That should permanently disable it. You'll also lose adaptive cruise control but doubt you use it anyways.

I do agree with you. It's a feature that's meant to make driving more safe but it does the opposite in a lot of situations. You eventually learn how it works and know when it'll activate, basically you learn to drive around it.

For now I’m just keeping it on warning only. I understand the computer has faster reaction time but it has almost got me into an accident multiple times with the active assist. It’s just an extra step every time I get in my car to go through the settings and turn off active assist. Really disappointed in genesis for this :(

I absolutely hate that this 2022 GV80 I paid cash for who thinks its the boss of me. Simply leaving my house daily there is the same curve in the road and I get whiplashed each day and chocked out by the seat belt if I don't spend the extra time to go through the entire menu to turn it off. And I don't give a rats rear about the dang map. I live on the same island my entire life. Trust me, I know roads that are not even on your maps for Maui... If I exit out of the map, stop showing it to me and making me hit the home button! Its absurd that in this day and age computers continue to try and force things upon us. If its not Microsoft its now Genesis. Bra, this is MERCA! Land of the not so free. Just give me my ability to simply drive around a curve not going more than 30mph without causing me to go see the chiropractor for it. Genesis send a push to my car and or let me change my own settings in the Connected Settings App to turn this off for good. Let me change my little icon to be a personal picture instead of the cheesy ones in there and for lawrds sake put back my seat & mirror settings that would automatically go to my personal settings when using my smart key. My husband is too lazy to put back the user to me when he borrows my car and he might pull a hamstring if he was to push the #1 button on the door while exiting. I paid 70k for this dam thing. I just want it to do what my 2017 GMC Sierra does and put back my seat to my settings when I unlock the dang thing with the ancient fob... Is that too much to ask? (Swearwords abound)

That’s not how the feature works. Since you paid all “cash” remove the feature.

Kitty, says, WHAT????
What do you mean “that’s not how the feature works”?

If you have the answers to remove the feature for good, we are all ears. Trust me there are far more people grumbling about this that are not directly on this blog. They are all over the net if you google. The few people here who have requested Genesis fix the system to allow us "the humans" to stop having to click & scroll into the AI over 7 times at 3am trying to get on the road to work. Heck my settings don't even save for the type of drivetrain I wish to keep my personal settings on (sport). I'm mind numbing with the total expense of these cars, with them touting how superior they are to other brands, but yet a far cheaper Honda saves all personal settings, allows you to turn off for good several AI settings and it's a one-shot deal. Why then is Genesis so stuck in a dictatorship, not listening to Its customers? Allow us to save our settings for our individual users FOR GOOD.

GENESIS= LISTEN UP! We have yet to have anyone directly from Genesis chime in here. Microsoft at least has a third world contact chime in and say sorry, and give feeble assistance when there is a discussion on their sites.
  • Turn off collision avoidance FOR GOOD! Do Not require us to either use “warn” or anything else of said setting, but allow us to turn it off for good! I'm not kidding when I explained that there is a slight curve in the road by my home and for some idiotic reason, the car thinks that at 30mph, I'm going to launch off into the parked vehical on said curve.. I get chocked by the seatbelt and scared because I forget to turn off the setting sometimes. It shocks me and I hate it! 30mph on a SLIGHT CURVE!
  • Save all driver settings. Drivetrain settings, radio, keep eco thingy off for good if I want that (turning on and off the engine at a stop) and don’t make me always hit that button each time I get in the car. Yes it’s a button on left bottom of dash which is easier than having to scroll/click through a confusing menu, but still, stop bossing me around!
  • Each Key Fob should be assigned a driver to activate their SAVED settings when they lock/unlock the doors.
  • SAVE USER SETTINGS ALL AROUND UNIVERSALLY FOR ALL THINGS FOR GOOD! What’s so hard?! All other brands, even the cheapest Kia’s has this ability. My son’s Kia does everything I list above.. Shame on you Genesis! Shame!!!
