  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As much as I love the my new GV70, I have to say that Genesis dropped the ball on the rear door handles. Maybe I am nitpicking, but, for a $65K car I'd expect rear door handle illumination and keyless access. We have a 6 months old baby and I tend to open the rear door first to click the infant car seat in first, before getting in the front. Further, it's extremely weird because the front has the feature, as well as the trunk, but not the rear seats. Audi, BMW, Lexus, etc. all have rear hands free access. Since the ALL door handles appear to be the same size, I wonder if this feature could be retro-fitted?

Little things like that keep the cost below the competition you mentioned.

I never had a car with locks on the rear doors but with using a car seat, could be handy to have. If I want to put something in the back seat I just touch the front button from habit.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Understand your frustration. Maybe they can do an update and allow for the feature to unlock all doors when you approach with the key fob and give you the option for a setting of unlocking all doors or just the driver door?!

i am thinking this update can be just programming a new feature

Well, so do I now... But, this is unfortunately annoying, especially in this price range. I understand the "cost" argument, hence, I'm asking if a retrofit might be possible, and the price would be worth it to me. Price was not an issue, we bought the car in cash and my other two picks were a x3 M40i or a SQ5, but I liked the styling and rarity of the GV70.
I assume it would be "as easy" as to retrofit two front handles, and then run some wire to a harness, as the sensors likely sit in the handle. This would also add the light, and make the car look more "symmetrical" at night since the rear handles currently don't light up.

Glad this 'feature" doesn't exist. My kids often try opening the car door and I would not want to worry about them slamming the door into an adjacent vehicle. The driver/passenger door is within reach of the back doors and I don't see this as an inconvenience. Maybe I'm just brushing it under the rug because I haven't had the feature before, but man it seems to have a work around that is literally within arm's reach.

Well, if it was truly a proximity sensor that allows all doors to open I agree. However, the current solution only allows you to unlock the door that is closes to the keyfob - if you stand by the driver door with the key, your significant other can't unlock their door by putting their hand on the handle. Hence, I assume that this wouldn't be an issue with kids.
Anyhow, doesn't seem like this is an issue for others - oh well.

It's on a parent cost-saving things you don't notice at the showroom. Just like no heated rear seats that even my 2018 CRV had

The 3.5 Sport prestige does have heated rear seats.

After many years of owning various cars, there are more and more things that become "must haves" because once you have them, you can't go back and I check these before I purchase.

Just off the top of my head:
Heated front and rear seats
Heated steering wheel
360 degree camera view
Homelink
HUD
Adaptive cruise control
Car Play
Self adjusting high beams (not a deal breaker) - I used to say "why would I pay extra to make it more convenient for the other guy?" But since having this initially on my Audi, I really like not thinking about turning off the high beams with oncoming traffic (I try to be courteous at least).
Rear door opening handle (not an absolute deal breaker, but wished I had this since having it on my Audi).

I don't have kids and 80% of the time I'm alone when I'm driving and I would like this feature. I put most things in my back seat area. I can't tell you how many times I will try to open the backdoor only to find it locked. Annoyed with myself I unlock them using the front door button on my G70. I would be nice to have at the very least a button on the handle. It's obviously not a make or break for me but I do understand your desire.

I know the absolute top trim has it, but I think the other trims especially my 2.5 sport prestige should.

I guess it is a balancing act between cost and need. Some of your must haves are the same as mine, but since I moved from CT to FL I don't need them all. I have AWD but next car with be RWD and lose the heated steering wheel I no longer use. Even living up north, rear seat heating was rarely used, maybe three times.
Aside from AA or CP, your others are on my list too. Once you have them you'd really miss them.

Your are right……so simple. I have never had a car with keyless entry that would not open from any of the 4 doors.

Just hit the unlock button on the key fob - presto, all doors are unlocked.

Like the OP, I also considered the SQ5 but was turned off by things like fake exhaust tips (the stupidly priced real tips weren't even an option in 2023), the half-a$$ed centre console rework when they went to the new MMI and lack of remote start. Every vehicle you purchase will have compromises. If a certain feature is important to you in everyday life, make sure it's there before you purchase.

2024 GV70....Out of force of habit when I have a package or bag of groceries I try to open the rear passenger door to put the goods in the back seat.

Now, out of force of habit (Mercedes, BMW, and Audi) I reach for the rear passenger handle and nothing happens which reminds me to open the Driver's door so the others unlock.

I wouldn't think much of it except this scenario happens 2, 3, or 4 times a day,

Elliot

I find the lack of this feature annoying at times, too. My previous RDX had it and it was convenient more times than realized. I've only had my GV70 since July and I'd bet that I've grabbed the rear door handles at least a dozen times to put something on the back seats only to find the door locked. 😒
