  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Label everything, take pictures, ask your friends for help. This job for the average guy who can turn a wrench will likely take about 3-4 hours for total removal time.

The following step by step is a rough guideline of how to do this job. This is all based off of my memory. Hopefully it helps a little.

1. Jack up the car.
2. Remove negative battery cable.
3. Remove drive shaft, carrier bearing assembly. (Should be 18mm hardware for the 3 bolt drives haft flanges and 13mm hardware for the carrier)
4. Remove dust cover/inspection plate under the trans (10mm) to give access to the torque converter bolts. (Should be 12mm, 13mm, or 14mm)
5. Remove all torque converter bolts.
6. Remove starter, utilize a zip tie or other device to tie it up and out of your way. (Should be an 18mm and a 13mm).
7. Support the transmission with a jack and something to protect the pan, remove the transmission cross member.
8. Label and Disconnect any wiring and linkages to the trans.
9. Remove the bell housing bolts. ( Should be an 18mm)
10. Gently slide the transmission backward from the engine and lower it carefully.
