  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HAS ANYONE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL ? I have and is told that apparently it's the rack and pinion electric motor. The batteries and fuses have been checked. Any recommendations ?

Do you have the ability to load test the electric steering motor?

What issue is the R&P giving you? No assist, stuttery assist, jammed up, other issues?

My motor also failed. It started with noises turning either way. Then, it finally stopped assisting and light turned on, on dash.

Control module is mounted above the front aero panel facing the front of the car. Bad placement as it can be directly impacted by road debris. Warranty on this part is 5/60, it isn't covered under an extended warranty and most dealers recommend that you file an accident damage claim to get it covered.

Here is what you maybe paying to repair it. This is without labor cost. Damn expensive rack.

For $4K - I'd do my best to find one used....!
For sure. However, the power steering rack for the Genesis are not a common item to find used. They seem pretty reliable, but like any part it could fail. The only one I found used on ebay was from a wrecked 2015 3.8 with over 120k miles on it. The seller still wanted $1000 for it; with 120k miles of use.

I have an AWD, which are not so easy to find. Been without the car close to 4 weeks now. Still haven't been able to find an used one.
I have found plenty RWD.

Dealer was charging me $6300 to replace it.
Damn!!! Hopefully your situation is not a common issue with these cars. Most of the used power steering racks seem to be still be good on high mileage(over 100k) cars, so the rack seem pretty reliable overall. However, the prices for replacement power steering racks are insane; even when used.

The Genesis/G80 is a cheap luxury car to buy used or new depending on how you look at it, but you may end up paying just as much as any other high end luxury car to replace major parts in it. Something a potential used car buyer should take into consideration when buying a high mileage Genesis/G80 for sale.

The part numbers seem the same for both the AWD and RWD racks, which make sense that the part would be the same for both versions. So I would just go with a rack from a RWD car and just reuse the specific mounting brackets and hardware that your AWD car may need. However, I would take a very good look at the parts to ensure that it is interchangable from rack to rack.

Note: I think that the part site information could be wrong. The 2015 5.0 RWD model has a similar looking rack with a different part number ending with B1200 not B1400 like the 3.8 listing. However, both the 5.0 AWD and RWD racks have the same park numbers ending in B1200; so maybe the 3.8 part numbers are correct. Weird.

Car-part.com has a bunch listed for RWD and none for AWD. Autopartsearch.com has two listed for AWD.

Thanks for the information. I am now able to check salvage yards online for parts in the future.

This site also clarified my concern about the part number listed by another site I used. The correct part number may not be correct for the 2015-2016 power steering racks on my usual part website based on this actually picture from a salvage yard on the site you posted about.

57700-B1200 seems to be the proper RWD(2WD) steering rack part number for the 2015-2016 Genesis 3.8 or 5.0 models. 57700-B1400 is most likely the AWD(4WD) rack part number for the 2015-2016 3.8 or 5.0 models.

I bought the unit from one of these 2 places and they sent me a broken motor for the rack. Had to send it back the same day I received it.

I called the second place and they didn't have it anymore.

Most of this places do not remove their posts/ads/item when they have sold.
