  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 Rivals

Cross-posting from the GV60 board.

Reviewers are also saying it had a brand-new infotainment system that allows full-screen maps to be displayed in the digital gauge cluster. Some GV70/GV80 owners might not be too happy about this lol.

I'm torn between the 2022 Lexus NX Hybrid and the GV70.

I have 7 months to make a choice on either so I am in no hurry.

Genesis Pros: Far better tech, 3 years maintenance, better warranty
Genesis Minus: Lots of defect reports, gas mileage, premium gas (on 3.5 Prestige)

Lexus Pros: Brand reputation, built like a bullet, Gas mileage on a hybrid, regular gas
Lexus Minus: Always behind in tech offerings

The NX tech actually looks pretty impressive ; not too far from GV. Is there something in particular that GV has that NX doesn’t? So far, off top of my head, the in-dash “mirrors” when putting turn signals on is something special to the GV that I really like.

Personally, I think the tech difference between the Genesis and Lexus NX is night and day.

Compared to the Genesis Prestige trim the Lexus lacks massage seats, colorized HUD, AR navigation, power-folding mirrors, advanced seating positions, rear seat comfort controls, rear seat child monitor, blind-spot camera views in cockpit display, and auto steering.

(and those are just off the top of my head)

The Lexus does offer digital rear view mirror and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android audio.

I also suspect the Lexicon in the GV blows away the Mark Levinson in the NX.

Genesis offers a better warranty and includes 3-year maintenance (oil changes and such).

Of course, Lexus comes with better brand recognition and overall reliability (though Genesis always appears in the top-most reliable SUV models). I would feel more confident in the reliability of Lexus and their service centers. Not happy that Genesis shares their service centers with Hyundai.

Finally, if you read this forum, there are a lot of complaints about software issues in the GV70. All that tech means more bugs. If there is any advantage to Lexus offering less tech it's that there is far less chance of the kind of software issues that GV70 owners have been reporting.

Good points on the less tech-less problems.

I’m in same boat as you, and won’t decide until I drive the NX. FWIW, the NX does have (“Available”) color HUD. The 2021 NX has power-folding mirrors so I expect 2022 too.
I have a Mark Levinson in my Lexus SC-430 which is probably best auto radio I have had to-date.
Other pluses on NX - digital latch, and I suspect it will work with the iphone for digital key.
The NX has a “3D” feature that is supposed to brake so you don’t turn left in front of a motorcycle. Do you know if GV does that? I’m a former motorcyclist and now bicyclist. It is great idea if tech will prevent drivers from hitting cyclists and pedestrians.

So much of car buying is subjective. I personally chose the GV70 because it answered the bell for what I was most interested in. I wanted fresh styling, power, quiet, comfort, and reliability. The GV70 may not be in 1st place in any of those catagories, but in my opinion it's either 1st or 2nd in all categories. I asked my mechanic what I should choose after I told him I was lusting after a Velar and he emphatically told me not to buy any European car because they break often and when they do they are expensive to fix. I trust his judgement. I once had occasion to require a tow truck on the Oakland/SF bay bridge. I asked the driver what he towed the most and he didn't hesitate with his answer...Beemer. All that being said, I am still scared because I'm five hours away from the closest Genesis dealer.

I am confused why you are scared. Are you going to the Genesis dealer to buy? It's not a European car. And it sounds like your mechanic probably gave you enough good advice that you are heading to a Genesis dealer instead of BMW, Mercedes or Audi.

I am scared that if I do need warranty work done, I've got a 5 hour drive to the closest dealership.

That is not good. You certainly need to put some thought to that. You get 3 years complimentary service but if it's going to be a 5-hour drive every time you need to get an oil change or something goes wrong, that might even deter me from buying a Genesis.

Let us know what you decide to do.

Are you 5 hours from any Hyundai dealership?
Doesn’t the concierge service mean they will come get it (at least first 3 years)?

Not saying this definitively, but I would imagine not at a 5-hour distance from the dealership. There is an asterisk under the concierge service that specifies that it's within a certain area. In fact, here is the exact verbiage...

Subject to retailer and concierge availability. May not be available in your area. Please reach out to a Genesis Concierge for details.

There is a Hyundai dealer in town. The service manager told me he would honor the free oil change, but if there was any warranty work to be done, he couldn't do it. They want to become Genesis dealers but their techs are all about to retire and he doesn't want to spend the money to send them to Genesis school if they will then leave. So I'm waiting at least a year before he attains the Genesis badge.

The biggest problem with the Genesis brand is not their vehicles...

...it is the lack of dealerships. This is the perfect example of how damaging that can be.

This is news to me. I have yet to see a Hyundai dealership that wouldn’t service a Genesis. Same thing for Honda. All Honda dealerships were more than willing to service my Acura.

The concierge service and free oil change for 36,000 is only honored at the Genesis dealership I bought it from but Hyundai will do the work if I pay. They also made a big deal that their mechanics are Genesis certified and that it matter.

We may need to identify terms here. I'm sure a Honda dealer would be more than happy to "service" my Buick. What the local Hyundai dealer told me they would honor the free oil changes, but any "warranty" work could not be done. I was also told by the Genesis dealership that I bought the car from that there was no standard policy for Hyundai dealers. Some would extend the free oil changes and some would not. It was up to the Hyundai dealer.
