Is 100k miles too late to do a transmission fluid change on the ZF 6-speed?

I have a nearly mint condition 2011 Genesis that I really want to get to 200k miles at least. The engine oil has been changed every 5000 miles, however the transmission fluid has not been changed. I know there is a lot of conflicting info about "over 100k miles you shouldn't change it" from old school mechanics but then newer ones tend to say its perfectly fine to do so. Which is more beneficial in thee long run? No transmission issues as of now, and almost all highway miles.

I dont own a genesis, but im coming from an older infiniti and i decided to do a trans fluid change at around 80k miles. I do not think the previous owner did it at all.

I suggest going to the dealer for this. Ask if they recommend it at this mileage and they also might be able to do some checks on it to see if it is in fact safe to do so. I asked, and my service guy said they would ask their mechanic first before actually doing it.

For my infiniti, i was told by multiple people to not do a flush but a “drain and fill” 3 times. Did my dealer actually drain it and fill it 3 times before sealing it up? Who knows, probably not. It turned out okay. Ymmv.

I never heard that but I'm sure some believe it. Does oil get better after 100k miles? Unless it does, changing it seems to make sense, especially since you plan to go some distance.

Fluids break down over time. I would recommend replacing it.

If you decide to move forward (I would in your shoes), you'll get almost 3x more fluid out if you drop the trans pan.

If the transmission is still functioning well, I doubt changing the fluid would hurt anything. I wouldn't FLUSH it, but like others have suggestted, do the drain-and-fill a couple times, and change the pan/filter once while you're at it.
